@mack41 a couple years ago I played most of the mainline dracula series games in release order on original hardware, up to sotn. You can search for my reviews on this forum if you want!
It is my humble opinion that Rondo is overrated, from gamerbro groupthink. Akumajou Dracula X68000 is my favorite.
My advice for how to enjoy would be based on which games in the series you’ve beaten and enjoyed already.
If you haven’t beaten the first game, try the easy type version that was released on cartridge for famicom.
If you’re generally struggling to enjoy the game, a symphony of the night play through could add context and help you enjoy it.

I’m half way through Donkey Kong Land for gameboy. Still playing Dragon Quest V. Might pick up my 3ds and plow back into EOIV at some point.

Got me every time, fr

I like all the Ace Attorney games, but the second half of GAA2 definitely makes its case for being the best game in the series. Everything that I want out of an Ace Attorney game is suddenly so consistent that it feels like gorging on the good stuff.

I finished Yakuza 5 tonight. Good game, Yakuza is fun, but that one is just too long. I was very ready for it to be over long before rolling credits. The final section before the finale really stops the game dead in its tracks and imo never really justified its existence.

Won’t get to it for a while since I burned myself out for a bit but I have my brother’s copy of Yakuza 6 ready when the time comes. It’ll be nice to get back into one with a more intimate scale, I think.

Played through Star Wars Jedi: Survivor while working on a many thousands word review of Another Crab’s Treasure. Man, both those game have stagger meters if you know what I mean.

I’m going to post it on my new neocities which I’ll share once it’s ready.

Now forcing myself to finish Super Mario RPG remake (SOrry!!!) then maybe I can put in the proverbial headphones and excavate some ancient 100 hours jrpg or read a nonfiction book.

On 02 June 2024, after 62.5 hours of play, Galerius has been compromised to a permanent end.

I clocked Unicorn Overlord last night. Do I have anything particularly insightful or nuanced to say about it? Not really.

I mean it’s a great game and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to play a tactics game. I like that you don’t spend too much time playing dating match maker with your characters. The game is stunning to look at. I think it’s perfectly modular, in a sense of you can do a good activity or two before bed.

People might see this as a plus or minus but it does fail to keep the difficulty momentum throughout. By the middle it does do the Fire Emblem thing where you can steamroll entire nations with 1 guy. I’m not personally against that but it’s a taste thing.

Narritvely it doesn’t rock the boat. Which I’m fine with - better to keep it simple and concise then aim for something grander and failing.

So yeah give it a go if you’re on the fence. But also play Triangle Strategy dude it’s great!

Hey, me too! Except I finished at 1am this morning (3rd) and am about to do the post-game quest.

I haven’t much to add but I agree that it’s such a good game to chill out with for 5-10 minutes or get stuck into for hours at a time. There are so many games from upwards of the last 20 years that require a chunk of time to even be worth playing but Unicorn Overlord respects that a player might just want to hang out briefly and do a dinky side mission.

My only gripe is that once you start exceeding the ability to allocate new characters to units it becomes quite difficult to start replacing existing characters with new ones. I suspect that one the highest difficulty that would become a lot more important but I only used one or two of the elves, beasts and angels.

Other than that? I’m comfortable with saying it’s one of the best games I’ve played in the last 10 years. It sure is a videogame.

Good work us!

That is actually a really good point. I did stop experimenting a bit with my team compositions after a while. I had a lot of team members from Drakenhold (completed that region first) and really only used maybe two of those main elf girls. I didn’t not utilise any of those beast people or angels. I mean they seem cool and I’ll give them a try if I replay the game in the future.

Cool game!

I had no idea I was near the end of Resident Evil 2 and then it ended. It was fun! I really enjoy how the architecture of the world makes less sense as you keep going. It doesn’t make very practical sense to build a lab one mile underneath a police station, but it made for a fun space to explore.

Like I said, I was caught off guard by it ending. It didn’t seem to build to the clear climax 1 did, though the escape sequence was cool.

I’m gonna play the Claire side now. I wasn’t interested in playing RE1 after finishing it, but I want to spend a little more time in RE2.

I got Baldurs Gate III and Cyberpunk both installed on my steam deck, which means my most played game for 2024 is Watching YouTube Videos About Ways To Get Mods On Your Steam Deck (I am 0/3 on guides so far, some obscurity of installing microsoft .Net frameworks on Linux inevitably bones the whole process)

Played two games lately.
One is Buckshout Roulette. It’s a fun, short game, where you play the roulette against a dealer and had plenty of objects to disrupt or help you win over the same dealer. Kinda curious, it reminds me a little bit of the beginning of Inscryption in the sense that the game is played and there are several things that may be stacked against you, and the extra modes are fun if you want to keep coming at it.
The other one is Devil’s Imago, which is on itch.io and it’s another short game that is very unique. I recommend trying it, because its atmosphere and the ways the creator has written the story is something I’ve been racking my mind around for the last week. Can’t say anything else, since it’s short and I don’t want to ruin the fun for those who want to try this.

Up until a moment ago there was a Demon here:

A friend helpfully pointed me in the direction of the baldur side blade since I was looking for Dex weapon upgrades, and with that it only took two further tries

So, it looks like my Dark Souls journey is going to continue this time!

I’ve also been gently picking at Fire Emblem: Awakening, which I’m simulating the experience of playing a portable RPG on a former commute with—a battle or so in the evenings

I’m only two or three in as a result, but I’m so far rather impressed with how luxurious this game is presentationally for something on the 3DS. The cutscenes are absolutely gorgeous and I’m looking forward to working on this one slowly over time

Getting this weapon was the key to me progressing in the game, I used it for the rest lol. Have fun!

Dark Souls and Awakening…suddenly I’m back in my college apartment. My most played PS3 game and my most played 3DS game, I believe ever. Beautiful video games, both.

I’m through about 2/3 of 1000xRESIST and I love what they’re doing with intergenerational trauma & diasporic displacement. it’s incredibly dense and ambitious despite playing like an adventure game a la kentucky route zero. it’s also really impressive visually despite limited assets and animations. it’s really something, I hope they stick the landing

I don’t like how I used the word ‘despite’ here as if its mode of gameplay/aesthetic trappings make it somehow less than games that have a bunch of money to spend. pretend I didn’t say that
