the pinks crushed me at first.
Thanks to a cascade of good luck I achieved credits on this run (Day 21) which I thought was dead.
I’ll probably keep playing it. But it felt kind of random
If the schedule of your game is the same of mine. You’ll likely encounter another escalation.
(Billiard room spoilers) The colours change location
ah - I meant in the color blind sense. i’m okay with the math! i’ve seen the yellow and pink inner circles, curious if there are more escalations after that
i’m on day like 63 and it still comes up with new ones every so often
Thats what I mean. I’ve had the yellow and pink rows flip their location. But you have to be able to identify colour to notice that.
No, I don’t know of anyone who has seen everything. It’s probably a decent chunk longer than that.
Granted, the ostensible goal you’re given at the start of the game takes maybe 15-20 hours? But that’s a small fraction of a fraction of what the game contains.
god last night i had the craziest sleep, tossing and turning and having fever dream style dreams about placing rooms in the mansion. i’ve played it a TON this past week lol
I rolled credits on Day 26, and I now know two other people who won on that day. I wonder if that day in particular is lucky lol.
~55 days, 37 hours in, just had a crazy day where I got good rerolling opportunities and made progress in many fronts.
Written in an as non-spoiler as possible way for someone who just beat the game:
-Got power to Lab
-One of The Keys (iykyk)
-Solved music sheet puzzle
-Broke breakable wall in basement and others like it
-Opened 2 vault boxes
Notebook has expanded to a more structured screenshot database that will keep books, maps and information of that nature. If I’m ever finished I’d love to see what everyone else does for notes. What a game!
Shorter update, had to take a break from updates to process some personal idiocy:
I got to the 46th Chamber of Wu Blue on Day 19, but… wanted to show the ending to my daughter, who’s been following along. Left the game alone and lost the run to a power outage. I know not everyone likes the one day, one save thing, but I have no complaints – this was user error. Should have just ended the run. Anyway! I cleared it again on Day 25 and again on Day 26, second day I actually had all three antechamber doors open (Secret Garden, Greenhouse, Great Hall). Opened the sigil room on the left and got my first postcard, etc.
I’ve played a fair bit more over the Easter break. A lot of it watching/helping someone else who had made similar progress (I recommend this if you have someone in a similar place in the game).
I’ve warmed a lot to the “real” game. But equally the drafting/RNG mechanics weigh the game down more than ever. And the inconvenience from getting a bad run only grows. I spent an hour Today trying to recreate things I had “Solved” via video-sharing yesterday, which involved all of entering a room and opening a safe, and could not do it.
The drafting is particularly annoying because it always technically gets “better” as the game progresses, but at a logarithmic crawl.
Some other things:
- I’m convinced the game either underwent a late reshuffle, or that the creator has an utterly deranged idea of how a ‘normal’ playthrough progresses. Like you can solve two major puzzles that make permanent changes, which enables the drawing of room X, which puts rooms of type Y in the draw, and if you are lucky enough to get three of those in a row you get an extra secret room that contains… The tutorial to one of the first and easiest puzzles in the game.
- The game is obscenely American. And probably extremely regionally specifically American. Not just spelling or dates. But things like pronunciation.
- There are a lot of word play puzzles and the quality is sub-NYT crossword level.
- For a game that uses a lot of (American) English language based puzzles. Its utterly unconcerned with keeping a consistent meaning for basic concepts like “an item”.
The biggest plus I’ll give the game is how hard it commits to the bit, The narrative conceit for a house that rearranges itself overnight requiring people who enter to randomly draw rooms from a deck of cards, seems to be that a rich guy built a house that rearranges itself overnight requiring people who enter to randomly draw rooms from a deck of cards
I think I discovered something that might be helpful. Don’t play this game weeded. You won’t notice or remember anything.
I’m also curious
I do get the impression at this point that this game is like 90% RNG management, like Slay the Spire/etc, and an experienced player can more or less do what they need to. Slight spoilers there’s a trophy for completing the game on day 1, which I assume isn’t that hard once you figure enough stuff out
But also maybe the game can genuinely screw you over and there’s just a small percentage of players who will make zero progress in their first few days. idk
i have a sort of subtle feeling that despite the overall looks of it being all rng, that the game does in fact dole things out little by little, whether it’s by days logged or by certain puzzles solved or rooms discovered
and yeah i’m deep into the post-46 stuff now and there are all kinds of ways to mitigate the rng and i always have like 3 or 4 puzzle threads i’m pulling on, and am able to shift to another task for myself if one doesn’t work out the way i was hoping. it’s very rare that a run is a total dud, and usually that’s just when i’m being really lazy and not paying attention to the room layout and i shut myself off from having any doors to build from
love that this game will completely drop the metaphorical floor out from under you every so often and give you something wildly new
and then sometimes i’ll have all the info i need to solve a puzzle for like three realtime days before i put it all together in a dopamine-filled lightbulb moment (this last one was figuring out what the hell the XYZABC numbering system was supposed to mean – was sitting on all the right info on a few pages of my netbook before it all dawned on me at once)
Exact same thing happened to me today, great puzzle but from what I can tell I don’t think I can do anything really new. Just another slot to put the thing in, but I need more things!
