I listened to the list over the course of 3 days and somehow forgot that he mentioned 28.Eternal Sonata. Excited to go pick that up this weekend, it looks so good.
Eternal Sonata is such a wild ride. I especially love whenever it halts the action to show Powerpoint presentations of Chopins life. They donāt make them like they used to!

Now Iāll be going, to go see what I can find at my neighborhood games store. I donāt need remasters, Iām happy with Xbox 360 era graphics and donāt have any of the Xbox One/OneS/SeriesX/SeriesS anyway.
*: Xbox Marketplace is accessible on the website, or via an Xbox One or Xbox Series generation console. Even though you canāt shop from an Xbox 360, you can still buy backward-compatible Xbox 360 games, and download them to your Xbox 360 console. You know, for now. You used to be able to shop the JP marketplace with a free JP account, but it is probably annoying to fund a JP account from the US.
$: <$15 for a copy in its case with a manual
$$: $15-25
$$$: $25-35
$$$$: $35-75
$$$$$: collectorās item
ā¦ Wait. How does backwards compatibility work with one oā them new Xboxes work?
Can it actually read XBox 360 discs? Or are these games that are on the marketplace just ones that have been re-released and ported?
I ask because a little while back I actually bought a copy of Lost Odyssey on eBay, thinking Iād get around to finding a real cheap 360 somewhere at some point, but, you know, that thing canāt play Gears of War 5
I believe the vast majority of games are backwards compatible. You just put in the disc and it runs like itās native, except you have to sign into an Xbox account and saves are stored on the cloud, not locally. The last bit disappointed me to learn, when I first played an older title. I was hoping for an all-in-one machine that is future proof and off-line playable.
Also some games have options that improve the graphics and frame rates.
Edit: This is all in reference to Series X, got no clue about XB One
This is a great list, 360 is a bit of a blind spot for me. I had one around that period but I got it cheap and barely played it, I think I just played Red Dead Redemption on it and nothing else. I was big into PC gaming at that point.
I think the only one from the list Iāve played is Gears of War 2, which I played through with a buddy a few months back. A lot of these games were on my radar already, especially the traditional JRPGs, but there is a ton of stuff here Iāve never heard of or at least wouldnāt have previously considered playing. Looking forward to diving in!
I am in the mood for a VN, so I picked up Steins;Gate on Steam as it is currently on sale! Got it installed on my Steam Deck with an improvement patch which is apparently recommended.
i pretty much skipped the 360 too due to being a teenager, having no money and hearing too many stories about red rings. āif iād spent Ā£150 on an xbox that broke my life would be OVER,ā said my childish neurosis.
weirdly, a lot of the games that are readily available on the US Xbox store are just unavailable on the UK/EU one. my beloved ridge racer! why canāt i play RR6 on the stupid white paperweight series S I bought a couple of years ago??? i canāt! not without international account shenanigans.
After listening to the episode, I was surprised that I got 14.5 (the half point being an incorrect series entry).
Great episode with a relaxing and raw feel to it given that Tim read from a script. I had a real chill, hang out time with it.
I do however, wonder how long it will be until my 360 eventually bites the dust. Itās a real old guy and still earnestly playing games when it gets its wheels rolling. As much as I have no issue grabbing an emulator and playing games that are difficult to acquire, I would lament the loss of the very personal experience of dinking around the depths of certain games on native hardware - I donāt think Iād get the same kick making a level in Bangai-O on an emulator than I would on a 360.
At least here in the UK, 360s are still not that hot of a commodity so now may be a decent time to get a backup! Especially if youāre patient and keep an eye on local classifieds, shouldnāt be tough to get a good deal.
I have been shifting over to āslimā variants of consoles where possible in recent years, as they tend to be much more energy efficient and generate less heat (as well as just being newer). Plus I can fit more of them on my shelf!
I did get an Xbox One so that Iād have something a bit more contemporary and reliable for some of the games I have, but agree that I could probably get a backup 360 somewhere in the region of Ā£40-50, Iād imagine.
Man, this is really piling onto the list of reasons I wish I had a good way to play 360 games right now. Itās a real shame that the best (and most playable, afaik) emulator for 'em is a feature for a console that I donāt really want to buy. Maybe Iāll pick up a used 360 and hack it.
Did anyone else notice that when Microsoft killed the store on the 360, the dashboard interface got so much more responsive? Boot time is down, browsing the menus works fine now whereas it was killing me with lag before, etc. The ads are gone too.
Great episode. I was a late bloomer to the 360 (bought one in 2017), but itās been a great console for me. When I got one, 90% of the games I wanted were $5, $10 at most. I was constantly scooping up cool games for cheap. I still grab cheap 360 games when I can, though Iām sensing that theyāre just starting to turn the way of seventh-gen and hike back up in price. Regardless, I love stuff on here like Gears, Dead Rising, Pac-Man, Senko no Ronde. I beat Lost Odyssey and never liked it 1/4 as much as Tim does, but it has its moments. Overall, the 360 was a great console and maybe the last one with an actual personality, so I salute it.
I know this isnāt the book thread, but I feel obligated to mention that if you liked the poems in that movie, they were all written by Ron Padgett who was a great poet and often wrote interesting poems about odd/banal topics. Look him up, if you feel so inclined.
I thought the exact same thing! I avoided Deathsmiles for so long because of the goth/loli aesthetic, but once I played it, I was like oh yeah, this is one of the best shmups ever.
