insert credit forum presents: one last good Simpsons season

@“whatsarobot”#p120518 that's a truly weird coincidence! i have just had this particular season on in the background lately and the credits for that episode caught my attention (in a bad way)

@“rootfifthoctave”#p120519 Crazy. And yeah, I don't blame you.

This is the article I was referring to, by the way.

I watched s33e12 “Pixellated and Afraid” tonight and it got a few good laughs out of me, made me tear up and proved to me that good dynamic animation is still possible with the show‘s current production pipeline. The pacing is a little weird but it’s interesting! Super Eyepatch Wolf‘s latest video is what turned me on to checking out the latest two seasons and now I’m on the hunt for an episode guide.

We have been chugging through the whole series in the background for probably a few years by now, and I’ve noticed a bit of an uptick in quality for season 21. It might be benefitting from comparisons to some truly awful dreck in the later teen seasons, and I can’t remember the last episode that actually had an emotional moment that actually worked, but at least this season has been generally watchable with a couple good laughs in each episode.

Trilogy of Error is a season 12 episode I remeber thinking was legit great.

Honestly kind of amazed that this thread has been resurrected multiple times, and not once has anyone else recommended an episode that’s less than twenty years old.

dude

2022 was twenty years ago.

I’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym lately, and it turns out that season 35 of The Simpsons is perfect for end-of-workout stationary bike times. Just enough brain wattage left to let it all wash over you. And man, most of season 35 has been such a bland hand-wave toward what made Good Simpsons good, but I’ll go to bat for the episode called “McMansion & Wife,” about a rich, childless couple who moves in next door. Lots of good Nelson jokes, old-timey Simpsons vibes and timing, and a line that’s been lingering in my head ever since (and that’s the truest calling of Good Simpsons): When the rich guy sees Flanders for the first time, he says, “Who’s this stupid guy?” And it makes Homer fall in love with him, of course. Pretty good!

Just had a horrifying depressing thought: The Simpsons isn’t going to end until they kill Santa’s Little Helper
