Insert Credit Game & Sounds Poll for Videogame OSTs and Audio ***RESULTS!***

@“rejj”#p75070 I probably won’t have time to do any fiddling around with it until tomorrow or perhaps the coming weekend, but I might try throwing some numbers and columns and values around to see if any interesting patterns reveal themselves

Partly my fault for not setting it up for success in this regard, but finding a way to analyze what we've got for individual composers as well as developers would be fantastic.

I can see that we've got a lot of Uematsu, Koshiro, Square, Sega, etc., but there's not much else I can tell using the tools that Google Sheets has (and that I can figure out how to use).

Also I think that Share link up there has my full legal name if you click a few buttons. Oh well!! Just don't tell Justin Trudeau what I say on here.

There‘s a lot of music to be heard, specially older ones. I ended up including some more indies and was about to put more classics into it, so yeah, this would not only make me listen to several games, but also play them.

Also, very surprised to see Final Fantasy VII Remake there. I think the OST deserved some love, though, and I’m glad more people saw it that way.

I‘ve got a bit of time on my hands. I’m happy to pull together the numbers for composer representation.

i can't remember how my final 10 looked exactly (i did it AGES ago and it ended up differing from the list i'd made in my notes app) but i had a few "redux'd" or expanded soundtracks in the running - FF7R, Katamari Forever, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139...
i dunno! i guess i like it when they go back and iterate on stuff in cool ways.

i'm not trying to give people extra homework, i am very impressed and grateful for all the datamunching that you've done. BUT i would be interested in which franchises got the most votes! i mean, it's very probably FF but NieR is maxed out at three on the above table, but maybe got enough votes across those three releases to compete with FF? i dunno, i'm interested enough to make this post but decidedly NOT interested enough to Do The Work lmao

Unfortunately this would have had to be asked prospectively, but I would be curious to know, for each game a user submitted, whether they have actually/meaningfully played said game and whether or not they played it to completion (whatever that would mean for them).

I ask this because there are a _ton_ of games (especially in the age of huge curated youtube vg music playlists) whose OSTs I listen to regularly that I either haven't played yet, probably will never play, or tried but put it aside or bounced right off. To wit, this includes the Xenoblade franchise, Persona franchise, and most of SMT, for me, but there are plenty others! Surprisingly (to me) the only games that really fit into this category on my list are DKC2 and Chrono Cross (one day! one day I'll stop fiddling with settings on ODEs, FPGAs, emulators, remasters, etc and just play the gosh darned game!)

Just want to say thanks to @Gaagaagiins for pulling all of this together! This is extremely fun and we can all tell how much care and love went into it!

i'd have to look again at my list, but i know _yu-no_ is in that category for me, buy i think other than that i went with games i've played and loved, (because i'm a sentimental corndog). it speaks to how special _yu-no_'s music is.

I'm about half way through number crunching the mostly widely voted for composers in terms of number of games individuals (or bands) are credited for, as well as the most popular composers in terms of the total number of votes that individuals received across all their games.

@Gaagaagiins I'll drop you a PM with what I have once it's done if you want to slot it into the empty posts at the top of the thread.

This actually wouldn't be that complicated! No promises on it not reasserting _Final Fantasy_ dominance, however.

I didn‘t know about this honor roll system but it’s interesting to see my list got on there. I suppose my Sega Saturn picks like Grandia and Sakura Wars were bound to be less popular. But I never expected something as broad as Super Mario Bros (1985) would get only 1 vote.

I loved Katamari Damacy back in the day but I have no recollection of its soundtrack. Maybe it's time to re-play it on the Switch.

It's good to see a diverse slate of opinions. I wonder how a top 10 would look like if we have way more than 48 paricipants.

@“kory”#p75129 jet set radio is like that for me! i‘ve only really played the first stage on my roommate’s dreamcast, otherwise i've just experienced the soundtrack through youtube and tumblr. i think all the other games i listed were ones that i have spent a lot of time with

It's kind of a funny exercise for us to do because the whole premise of the original Sight & Sound Poll kind of depends on as large a sample size as possible while still pulling from a specific... interest group, lets say. We got the latter part, at any rate.

Damn, yeah, the results for that might only really make sense if we had collected them while doing the survey, or if everyone were to amend that response to the form after the fact.

I can speak for myself and say that my GOAT OST picks and my GOAT Videogame picks have a good amount of overlap, but I don't think that I like an OST _only_ out of an attachment for a game. I left some games off of my list specifically because I thought about it and found that I liked the game more than I liked the OST itself... that was what kept _Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon, Hollow Knight, Breath of Fire III,_ and _Pathologic 2_ off of my list especially. In one case, I made the opposite call too--I love _Rondo of Blood's_ soundtrack but I gotta admit I just don't thoroughly love the game itself, so it felt disingenuous to put it on my list.

The only game on my list that I have never played is _Pictionary: The Game of Video Quick Draw,_ for reasons fairly obvious.

I‘ll definitely participate next time, is what I’ll do!

@Gaagaagiins you‘re doing great work here and i’m very grateful, especially for the graphs (graphs rule) :+1:

@“kory”#p75129 I’m not one for enjoying media out with its proper context, so I almost never listen to soundtracks on their own. As such, you can count all ten of mine as games I have played huge amounts of, sometimes in order to hear the soundtrack.

@“kory”#p75129 I like this idea. I had taken a certain amount of sound design into account for my list, which isn‘t really something you engage with outside of playing the game. The one game that I had considered that I wouldn’t give the music a perfect ten is Hollow Knight because the sound is primarily subtle but visceral when it counts. (I did knock it off when I remembered Cave Story). The only game I haven‘t finished on my list is DUSK*, which I’ve played the first episode of and LOVE both the soundtrack and sounds of.

Four of my list overlapped with the game poll we did somewhat recently, which seems significant and maybe signifies a lack of rigor in my process for either but oh well.

I'd like to thank @Gaagaagiins for putting this together. I love these polls and games; it's been great to help me keep in touch with the forum after getting a bit busier lately.

*y'all should really play DUSK I think, excellent DooMchild
