More stuff from my walks around my area. I've been trying to get better by just taking lots of pictures. There are great photographers in this thread and I hope to get good like y'all at some point. Aside from taking lots of pictures, what other ways have you used to improve your photography?
I got another roll of Cinestill 800. I had taken a roll around Halloween hoping to get some cool shots of the decorations and I had some decent but I thought pretty mixed results. I figured I would give it one more shot to try and capture some holiday lights. This time I popped it in my Pentax k1000 and my gosh it was so much better! I think only about 5 shots were not interesting to me. Had a lot of fun looking at this one. You can look at more here if you please: https://photos.app.goo.gl/sH2kK8uXiDK4MCB49
@"matt"#p157872 I've been mostly shooting on my k1000 and it's been great. That MX should rule!! Good luck!
@āDaveedNooā#p157947 Which lenses do you have and or recommend? The 50 Iām getting seems like a winner. Was also considering the 40mm pancake for the small size.
I donāt have any photos to post today, but Iād like to share some excitement for a shoot I have coming up! Recently one of my friends asked if I could make her into a fairy which is very, very interesting to me. I LOVE working in nature and it's been ages since I did such a creative concept shoot.
I've been in burnout for a few years now, but this sparked something within me. It's given me a chance to draw inspirations from other forms of art, like storybook illustrations. I've been using myself as a reference for posing too which is something I haven't done before. When I think about creating this with her I get so excited and antsy. This is such a great opportunity to experiment and play around with my style.
Also I'd like to note that she is one of my favorite people and I'm so excited to see her. We used to work together on shoots all the time but as of a couple years ago she became a mother and recently had her second child, so I haven't been able to see her as much. When she messaged me she said I make her feel beautiful (one of the sweetest compliments I've ever received! wow!!) which makes me want to work even harder on this project.
There isn't a set date just yet, we have to wait till spring so everything is green and beautiful. The anticipation for this project is unbearable but thankfully has made me more willing to create art in the meantime.
@āmattā#p158021 I almost exclusively use a 50mm lens on it. Itās pretty small already but Iām not sure how big your camera is. I also have a telephoto lens that is fun to play with but not very crisp so I donāt use it often. Probably canāt go wrong trying the 40mm. I think I'd pick up a 28mm myself if I saw one.
@"speedtrials"#p158118 that's very exciting! Glad to hear it!
the museum had an exhibit where they asked people to tell their life story with drawings, below are some of the drawings I saw ā not artistic pics or anything just thought iād share!
I donāt have the mental energy to keep buying used cameras from Japanese eBayers. I didnāt mention that this was the 2nd such device that died and I have had to return. So I did something very silly and bought a silver chrome Leica MP. More film shots incoming after I take that for a spin.
For now, here are some of the final shots my Pentax MX took, developed and scanned by yours truly :D
I held a silver Leica MP at a shop in Portland a couple years agoā¦what a marvel of engineering, just an absolute unit of a camera. I was pretty tempted by it, but ended up getting an all black M6 TTL. Curious to hear more about it and excited to see some shots!
I moved last June and so Iām learning what my new neighborhood looks like across the seasons and Iāve been enchanted lately by the proliferate flowering trees and how they look under streetlights.
I have a couple shots I took with my phone to get an idea of how they might look.
no specific recommendations, but for night photography any relatively new (like, within the last decade) APS-c or preferably full frame camera should have decent enough high ISO performance, especially paired with a wider aperture lens (say f 1.8 or wider). I remember being blown away by what I could do in low light with my Canon 6D and 50 1.4 lens when I first got it like 12 years ago.
I havenāt used one myself, but at least by reputation the āsā variants of the sony a7 cameras might be the bestālow megapixel sensors with crazy high iso performance (pricy though).
Thank you! Iāll be sure to keep ISO and aperture lens width in mind while I shop. I barely passed Photo 1 in art school and havenāt investigated it since, so, I more or less consider myself a novice.
The Lumix LX series already had a reputation for excelling in low light when I got mine. I donāt know if thereās better out there now, and I was reading that Panasonic discontinued all but their system cameras recently. If you can get a good price I would recommend any from that lineup though because the ones Iāve usedāLX5 and 7āhave been great and Iāve heard similar right up to the 100ii.
