Insert Credit Semi-BiWeekly Score Attack!!! now playing: Raindrop!!

Almost caught you @rejj! I still don’t feel like I’ve had a GREAT run yet. Every run feels like i missed something or didn’t optimize something. Mostly in the movement at this point. I’ll keep at it!

Sorry to come in so late on this! Finally got some time to play this afternoon. Not played this game before but love the aesthetics/feel of it. Heard the caravan mode was good that’s why I suggested it. Think I’ll play through the main mode as well soon!

I was getting 470k or so without external assistance, but after watching the (very impressive) video I was able to get this score:

Oh fun! I like this idea. I used to be in a pinball league that net at the pinball museum in seattle. My skills aren’t such that I can play a good game consistently but I can break loc records occasionally. I had the high score on Arabian Nights, the Star Trek tng table and the demolition man table. At least until I moved out of Washington

I got this one a few days ago and haven’t been able to top it yet. I’ll try to get a few more runs in later. When are we cutting it off? Btw, I loved this score attack. So fun and snappy!

It’s kinda crazy how much time you can burn just playing the same 2 minute section of game over and over.

Gave myself 45 mins before I had to feed the dogs - I’m nowhere near kez but I wand to keep trying another day. Hardest thing for me is getting all 4 orbs that come off the hug orb fella. It does feel like the more zs you get the more they are worth. Caravan shooters are so cool

My tips for Hudson caravan shooters in general (I am no expert nor very good at shooters but I have played these since I was 12):

  • if there’s a group of things, shoot them all
  • if there’s two big things kill them at the same time
  • if something makes a circle get inside it
  • the speed at which you beat the boss determines the patterns of your next stage

Playing this again reminds me of my favorite aspect of caravan shooters. How far do they go, really? If the time limiter were off what would happen? How much “more” is there that we can’t see?

I think this might be the best i do. If i feel the itch, I’ll go for a couple more runs. This was a fun one, thanks again everyone!

Hitting diminishing returns here, like I’m just getting worse after my best, but had a good time til then!

More little tips:
Enemy waves are triggered by time after last defeated wave, so the faster you defeat a group the faster the next arrives

Get all four(?) z bonuses

To get the 50k bonus from the snake circle boss, kill it once it has passed 11 o’clock going counter clockwise after it has made its small circle

Farming boss bullets for points everyone knows already

Set your speed to high, I swear it makes you shoot faster?? (also don’t use turbo, it’s slower)

The two minibosses you have to kill at the same time, you can tell how damaged they are by how open their “eye” is. If one goes faster than the other you can still adjust

[edit]
Oops I lied I had one more go

I’m feeling dumb cause I didn’t realize you could change the speed until now. Gonna see if I can crack 500k on the last hour with this new knowledge

I believe in you! You just hit select on the controller. I think it helps once you get used to it.

Okay yeah I was playing this all wrong. @rejj I now get how you felt when you realized R4 had analogue stick support on the last time attack.

Wahoooooo! Was it the faster speed that did it or something else?

Yeah it was totally the faster speed. I was up to speed (hehe) with most of the tricks but couldn’t really chain them all in the slower speed.

I actually didn’t realize what the time limit was! I just happened to see it when I had some free time. I’ll always place a pc engine game~

Not submitting this as it’s way past the deadline of course, but watching the high score vid I saw they got 80k points from killing the 2 orb enemies right at the end. I figured if I could maybe just fast kill the worm and take 20k points I might be able to get through the waves fast enough to get those things to spawn.

I managed to get my pace fairly good but inconsistent, and even got them to spawn but didn’t get all the balls on multiple occasions. Finally managed to stitch together a run where I pulled off most of the scoring elements I was aiming for:

The closer you get to that high score video, the further away it feels. Truly in the valley of despair with this. They get through the waves insanely fast, and manage to farm so many points on the boss to boot.

Whoa, amazing - I couldn’t get the timing to where the orb enemies showed up - how many seconds did you have when you beat the boss, if you recall?

(oh and I guess you said you fast killed the snake guy)

Around 20 seconds I think. It’s not so much the time at the boss though, rather how many waves you defeat before the boss.

It seems to me there are only two time-based enemies in the level, the two guys you kill simultaneously and the boss. Everyone else just appears in sequence immediately after the last wave dies or leaves the screen, so the faster you clear each wave the faster the next one spawns (that’s why you can buy a lot of time killing the snake fast), and this sequence just gets interrupted by the boss then resumes.

In order to get the orb enemies, I had to get 4 waves beyond where those 4 slow mech things come in from the side before fighting the boss.
