That makes sense - and you really do want to hit those slow guys before the boss rather than after because they take forever to kill and that’s downtime otherwise.
Thanks for participating. Here’s our official TurboPodium
@exodus cluelessly as to the timeliness of this thread stumbled his way to the top at the last second. Pretty good. Our unofficial winner is @kez again cause they got a massive score advantage after our deadline. And @Thisiscontrol came in also at the last second with a respectable third place.
The Insert Credit Semi-BiWeekly Score Attack will return again on Sunday March 2nd with a game maybe choosen by our winner. (Brandon if you don’t wanna choose I’ve got a couple backup games but we welcome your pick anyway! doesn’t need to be a caravan mode game or a shoot em up just something that would lend itself to the format of competing in short bursts)
The following 2 weeks, the Time Attack thread will be active with Auto Modellista (2002). (also brandon you seem to know about this game and have stated on this forum that the gamecube version is the best one and we are pretty confused about which version we should play, we could use some feedback overthere if you’ve got time)
Feel free to keep posting your scores if you keep playing, rules and deadlines aren’t real after all.
That was fun! Does winning mean I can be selfish and choose another pc engine game? I dunno if that would ruin everyone else’s fun but I love caravan shooters for this sort of thing. I’ll see if I can come up with something that’s not that. Oh, and is there a list of stuff that’s already been done?
Just this and Summer Carnival Recca so far
Yeah I’d say another caravan shooter would be alright
Very nice! Yeah it’s really a very clean-feeling caravan mode but with enough tricks to feel like you can sqieeze more points out of it. Might go with a messier one next time but I’m still deciding.
New round. New game selected by @exodus. It’s -drum roll- …
Nanaca†Crash!!
I don’t know anything about other than it’s a browser game it looks really silly and you can access it here
We will be taking scores until Sunday March 16. As long as it is March 16 somewhere it is valid.
Here’s a score to get us started. The special was on glasses girl a millisecond before I landed on her, I swear!!
Oh wow, I played the heck out of this game back in the day. I can’t believe how low res everything is, it looks tiny on my monitor without zooming in.
I got very lucky with some chained specials at the start of this run:
For a basic overview, the premise of the game is I guess you’re a girl on a bicycle, you crash into a guy and the objective is to launch him as far as possible. Your first interaction is to choose the angle of your impact, and the power - kinda like a golf game or something:
- Time your click to get the angle you want
- Don’t release the click straight away, click + hold then release when you’re at the power level you want
As the dude bounces along he will collide with various people, if you hit a girl most of them strike you and give you a speed boost, however one of the girls (seen in our final shots) the guy will grab onto and it ends the run. If you hit a male sprite, it’s a debuff - speed down, angle up (not great) or angle down (not so bad).
You have some tools to extend your run, first of all you get aerials which is you crashing into the poor guy again midair. You do this with timed clicks. If you do it on the way down (AERIAL text is red), it will launch him back up again with more speed. If you do it on the way up (AERIAL text is blue) it will spike him into the ground - this is good for targeting a buff NPC you would otherwise miss, or avoiding a run ending NPC. The spike recharges over time but the red aerial you just get 3 total.
Finally, there are specials. Sometimes when you hit an NPC the word “SPECIAL” will flash up on the screen. If you quickly click while the word is up, you will get a special attack that gives a bigger than normal speed boost. Sometimes the special will be available on the girl on normally ends runs, so it’s good to be ready to click! There is a box on the screen highlighting currently “special” NPCs so if you’re moving a bit slower and spot one you’re gonna miss, you can use an aerial to spike into them.
In summary:
- Launch with click, hold, release
- Red aerial = launch back up, use by clicking on the way down
- Blue aerial = spike into ground, use by clicking on the way up
- Special = click when prompted
My personal strategy for the launch is to just do a super low angle and strike the first NPC at full speed, either it will kill your run straight away or you will get an immediate boost.
gave it a couple tries to figure out the rules and its sorta intuitive once you poke around and test everything out
really fun! I’m going to show this game to everyone I know
Fun! I’ll have to try some more later. I feel like I was just starting to get the hang of it. I got my first combination special on this try.
This looks like so much fun. I’m extremely medium at video games these days but I’ll try one I have dime time to sit down and experiment
It’s far from above score but I beat my PB from the last time we played this on the other thread so I’m pretty happy with this score.
Oh man I played so much of this in college when it went around the internet. 2007, maybe? This game is crazy and I love it. I’ll have to attempt later and put up a score!
I’ve always loved this game (and wanted to steal its mechanics) but I’ve never been good at it! I am reminded of how bad I am at it right now. I know part of it is luck, but part of it is not being sure my clicks are doing anything, etc. I chose this game and now I am driving myself mad!!! I think I once got over 10,000 like 22 years ago and never since. I’m gonna do it again!! this time!!!
[edit] this was my immediate next run
And on that note I am now running a side category to which my skills are better suited
(shortest distance if that’s unclear)
I love these types of games. I would waste school hours with stuff like this back in the day. Here is my second run. I will definitely take another run at it later tonight!
