bu… but the poll said silly cars
Rollcage?
Chocobo Racing
Or Bomberman Fantasy Racing!!
I think that’s my favorite pick so far. Rocket powered rollerblades qualify as silly cars, if you ask me.
OK, I’m still away on my unexpected adventure with super-limited, incredibly slow internet access (please don’t burgle my house).
I’m acutely aware that we need a game and while I would have loved to put some time into launching this time trial spectacular, I cannot. In fact, this forum performs very poorly on slow middle-of-nowhere internet connections and I’ve abandoned trying to set up a poll.
I’m back sometime next week, but feel free to come to a consensus for a silly racing game before then and get things started!
who knew that with great power (being good at videogames) comes great responsability (picking a game for next round)
Hugely sorry to all time attack stakeholders.
OK. I AM BACK. SORRY!
This will be a one-week lightning round.
The game will be ROLLCAGE STAGE 2 for Sony PlayStation because I’ve never played it and would like to give it a try.
GET PRACTICING, SPECIFIC CHALLENGE WILL FOLLOW.
lets’s make it a 2 week. I had also neglected the score attack thread cause I was sick. There are no rules!!!
OK! The current game is Rollcage: Stage II.
The challenge is a simple Time Attack around the Skyway / Republic Loop circuit, using the lovely yellow Richter Viking car. That’s the default non-upgraded version of the car, accessible in a clean save in the NTSC-US PS1 version of the game.
To commemorate another equally-important racing event that takes place in the month of May, I’ve selected this incredibly simple oval track, so the barrier of entry is very low and I expect times to be close! I imagine there will be some interesting strategies making carefully-timed use of the boost power-ups and possibly even jumping over sections of the track. I don’t know though! I’ve only played a few laps myself. I’ve meant to play this game for years, having owned the first game when it was released but never really being aware of the sequel. This seemed like a good opportunity to give it a try!
Setup steps:
- 1 Player Games
- Time Attack
- Normal
- Richter
- Skyway
- Republic Loop
- Begin
Then take a screenshot of your best time.
The closing date is Sunday 4th of May.
Another game for Time Attack that I’ve never played before – cool! It’s fun to see all these new (to me) driving/racing games.
I played for about 15 mins, and set A Time, but I do not believe this to be a Good Time, especially since it is only 0.1 seconds faster than one of the default leaderboard entries.
(there’s a 00:23:33 default entry)
I’ve only tried one small corner cut, which this time did not use. Finding a spot to boost off the track and land again without spinning out and losing a bunch of time is going to be a challenge.
A minor improvement, and I probably won’t get any more laps in at least until after the coming weekend
22.30 for me so far.
I’m surprised how different this game feels to the first one. Rollcage is floaty and bouncy, whereas Stage II is twitchy and nervous.
I’m certain there’s time to be gained by jumping the track, but the only time I’ve managed to do it I actually lost time, so maybe the deceleration in mid-air is too great to gain anything that way.
edit: minor improvement to 22.13
Am curious: do people play with dpad or analog stick?
Played Rollcage 1 on a demo disc, and really only remember it as the game where you can sometimes drive on the ceiling. Not much roof tech to be had on this course though.
Here’s me trying!
Analog stick for me.
Playing on a SiSTer, analog stick. I think I might be able to squeeze out a sub 22 if I’m really lucky.
Update!
Yeah well looks like I improved my time quite a bit
2 days left! So far only one player has managed to get into the 00:21s! Will anyone beat @Jockel’s time?
Current leaderboard:
- 00:21.80 @Jockel
- 00:22.13 @billy
- 00:22.62 @rejj
- 00:22.90 @WanderWhist
Time Attack Challenge must end Sunday night at 2100 GMT!
It’s over! @Jockel wins!
They get to choose the next game, with their challenge beginning in two weeks!
