@“Jax”#p129161 lmao i love how much fun this has become already
@"rejj"#p129167 woah, congrats on joining the Saturn club!! hopefully this is the first of many experiences with that console's wild library. yeah, the console port of Sega Rally is definitely a unique feel, but once you get used to it it's buttery smooth.
@"rejj"#p129168 oh man, a 53.6 is gonna be tough to beat, i think
The lesson I'm learning so far from these results is that the Lancia seems to be the faster choice over the Celica! I've been putting in some time and I can't get a sub-55 with the Celica no matter how hard I try. ALSO: I forgot how early Sega Rally came out in the Saturn's lifespan, and it turns out it doesn't support the wheel at all, so I'm back to the good ol' d-pad. Maybe one day we can play ManxTT Superbike and I can use the 3D pad's analog thingy or something.
This is the best time I've been able to get with the Celica so far. The game actually crashed before I took this picture. VDP2 just gave up and all I had was the UI and the background that acts as a skybox. I'm gonna switch to the Lancia next and see where that goes!
Haven't been able to beat the course record yet, but getting closer with each run.
What's everyone doing in regards to tuning?
I've got handling: 5 (fastest), tires 1 (softest), but not sure what to do with suspension yet.
This is still on the Celica (AT)
This is with handling at 4 and tires at 2. (I tried 5 and 1 and just kept spinning out.) Using the Retroarch Yabause core; idk if that makes a difference.
@"Jax"#p129208 Nice second lap time you've got there.
Ok guys tire compounds make a _huge_ difference. This was my very next run after switching to the softest compound. Excited for you all to completely destroy it with this new information.
Ok, I clearly need to read the manual before starting because I didn't realise you could tune anything.
The manual has lots of rally driver quotes that put you in the mindset
@“穴”#p129232 Softer tires allow you to get more traction, meaning you accelerate faster coming out of corners and off the starting line. Also allows you to take a tighter line while still maintaining speed. The handling just makes the car more responsive, and a bit more twitchy, and is probably more of a preference thing. (I find myself doing a lot better on 4 than 5, for example.) I tried a few runs with tighter suspension after reading that bit in the manual and only shaved about .07s off my time, which is negligible enough that it's probably just me getting better more than anything.
Plus, I always liked the Celica when I was young so I thought it required some proper representation in here
@“wickedcestus”#p129243 A mid 2:41 seems quite doable. You‘ve got a 54.xx first lap in one of your posts above. I’m consistently worse than everyone here on lap 1.
A sum-of-best-segments split across all the posts here would be 2:41.58 currently.
