I got Fightcade set up on my PC, then spent about half an hour trying to understand the control mapping systems to make a reasonably playable setup for Lucky & Wild. I think I was successful?
I’m leaving town for a week so I’m going to have to see about if setting things up on a Steam Deck is as straightforward.

This is for controlling player 1 (Driver/Shooter). I’m not sure if player 2 needs to remap anything for themselves, but they’ll have a way easier time just by virtue of not driving.
Theoretically, a player can use a single controller by mapping the aiming to the right stick X and Y axis and shooting with right trigger. I haven’t tried it myself though, but I feel like it would be a bit hard on the brain - it’d be a bit like playing Libble Rabble, in a bad way.
Left hand is holding the left side of a controller, LT is accelerate, LB is brake. Left stick (x-axis) handles Steering. Right hand is using the Mouse to aim, click to shoot. 5 is P1 coin, 1 is Start, and skipping interstitial screens.
There’s two bits that I found annoying but eventually solved:
- The game launches in Fightcade with the mouse locked in the window by default, so you need to press F5 to open the Map Game Inputs panel, and then Alt+Tab out of Fightcade and wiggle your mouse around to free it, and then click into the Map Inputs window\
- I had a really hard time getting “Mouse 0 Button 0” to actually map. Whenever I moved the mouse, it would register the X or Y axis as the button mapping, so I had to try a bunch of times to get it to actually register properly.

okay you gotta make a hamachi account, and install that weird vpn thing, and it only allows 5 players to play for free even though the game allows up to 8,
BUT
Elder Scrolls Battlespire GOG setup relatively easy and might be fun to tinker about with for a session or two

I sorta recommend playing a bit beforehand so you can have a fun skin to show off before we play but I will be probably playing a new install with default skin

I want more suggestions, I have a few more ideas but I’d rather hear from yall so to follow the excellent movie club we have I’ve made a suggestion form!

Wow, like @onnuhhhh said, I also strongly recommend playing a bit beforehand, with the addition that you can get coins very very easily. A single Best of 3 set of matches with Normal difficulty AI controlled opponents got me enough coins for a handful of skins. There are a shitton of them though, seems like!
Pretty impressive how well put together this is, what a fan project!

I’m so excited for this, the game is so fun
I also found that I’m really bad at it but it’s kind of one of those games where you’re having a good time even when you lose? Like I didn’t win a single match when I played online

It’s also got such a weird chaotically narrow distance between the skill ceiling and skill floor. Even the really good players I was playing with were blowing themselves up alone in the corner pretty often
