Last Letter Game - Games in your collection

@“Funbil”#p37277 Ha, I just went to take a picture of my copy of Ihatovo Monogatari and you beat me to it! Gonna post it again anyway!

[upl-image-preview url=//i.imgur.com/xIRjXmq.jpeg]

whoa, big day for this extremely popular game that everyone knows about

@“Funbil”#p37277 @“Jax”#p37279 Nice choice! I really dig Ihatovo Monogatari but your posts have made me realize that I have never bothered to track down who drew the package’s illustration.

Also, Miyazawa Kenji is probably the [best thing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenji_Miyazawa) to come out of Iwate.
... Ah! Sorry quick update. Miyazawa Kenji is probably the [second best thing](https://youtu.be/Z8T3uBw5bxE) to come out of Iwate.

@“chazumaru”#p37236 Wow!!! And yup, the device is neat! Forgot to mention that it’s also a lot like a VMU, where the cartridge has the screen! There’s also two other unique Power Ranger LCD consoles I would like to show off as well that does something kinda different… and wow, typographical chicanery, I love it!

Anyways...so, I got away with mirror vision here in an earlier post where I used the backwards S in Streets of Rage to respond to a 2... and I really want to know about that artist..

This is II ocilenot rA acliafaftem of ydoleM, so the title definitely ends with an M.
It was released in 2009 by the developers of my favorite JRPG soundtrack on the PS2, ManaKhemia. I preordered this game back then because I didn’t want to get a new console, I always thought the PS2 would be my last console so I got all I can for it.

The game is great, very innovative battle system. It’s turned based, where in a defense phase, you pretty much play this timed mini rhythm game, and for the attack phase, you have to use the directional buttons to fill up this graph thing. It’s like a coloring book iirc. Unfortunately, I remember it being super laggy. There’s even a mandatory game crashing glitch, and to get around it, you have to exploit the pause button a lot! There’s tons of errors in the localization as well, such as leaving the original Japanese text when it clearly shouldn’t be there.

Great solid rpg with great music. It reminds me of modern day NieR. The world they created was unique and beyond the tropey anime stuff, had noticeable effort, such as a brand new language (like ffx’s Albhed), emotional impacting scenes, and uh, ill mention great music again. This was one of my favorite tracks in the game

I remember going through a tough time dealing with dumb teenager hormone romantic problems and binge listening to this song over and over and just felt Life. There’s another song I want to share but my battery is low!

@“X3N0Sbioz”#p37324 I can‘t recall whether we have yet entered the country of the woods and repose here in this thread. I haven’t gotten as far into the game as folks like @“chazumaru”#146 or @“Kimimi”#156 but the influence on games like deadly premonition, gta, and even shenmue is certainly palpable.

if someone has posted it already, which I suspect they have, here's another, which I'm 90% sure hasn't been posted.

Moto Roader MC is the last of the moto roader games (I believe), certainly the last on the pc engine. To me it's notable for its various bonus modes, including a 5 player battle royale called batroader, in which you're trying to knock other cars off an ever-shrinking platform. There's also a mode where you try to knock balls into a goal with your car ala rocket league. It's a pretty neat game all around, and predicted quite a few later trends, it feels!

Not an actual entry! The only game I had for this thing was Super Scope 6. Wonder what 1-5 were like.

6inch My Darling was already posted above so I am personally out of ammo.

I see that Six F and Six 0 is free on Steam, if someone wants an easy shoe-in…

Anyone got a copy of 6-Pak for their Genesis?

Geez sorry I 360 no-super-scoped this thread and murdered it…I’ll stick with a theme and get us back on track (sorry if I posted this before):

Not sure what the official name of this is…but feel free to grab the ‘E’ or the ‘R’ or whatever you fancy!

@“chazumaru”#146 when there‘s a number we often just go with the last letter in the number (so you could’ve done an X one). I would‘ve done it but I kept forgetting!! The trouble is my games are in a different space than where I’m typing on my computer now. I'll try to be more diligent!

oh - well if that‘s the case

(it’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for you ctrl+f'ers)

Or… Is it Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Definitive Edition?

Or… Is it Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The golden country? (On the right.)

I say there are plenty of options here.

I'll take the N off Edition and finagle this title to sneak in Nekotako: US Cartridge Version: Taco Princess from the Moon cause it's on my desk. Feel free to play off the O or N.

Nekotako was developed by a three person team and released in Japan for the sfc last year. They were hand making each cartridge till they got help from another homebrew dev, Cubic Style, early this year to quickly produce sfc and snes carts. The us version is sold exclusively on Amazon? Not sure why that is, but maybe it makes shipping easier. Game's a bit too simple, but take a peek if you wanna play something new on your old console.

Huh, I had a surprising amount of choice with the letter “N”, but let's go with something that is going to stay short and sweet, and not make me regret that I wasted a post on the game before I really knew what was going on.

NAIRUGAWA NO YOAKE

The title above is based on the spine, as usual, but I would personally rather transcribe the title as Nile-gawa no Yoake (which means _Dawn on the Nile River_ in English). As you probably guessed, it's all about growing a kingdom near the Nile during the times of the Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt. Released in March 1998 as a Saturn exclusive by Pack-in-Soft a few years before they became Marvelous, Nairugawa no Yoake is a strategy game akin to Civilization. I am hesitant to use grown-up words like "4X" as I am really neither much familiar, nor very successful with this kind of game.

Nairugawa no Yoake seems heavily inspired by Western games of that era, much moreso than Japanese ones, but it was actually developped in Japan by a small company called Quest (not _that_ Quest, but [this one](http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Quest_(2))). I know that fact because there has been very little information available online on the game, which eventually led me to track down and purchase its official guidebook a few months ago. One reason I am not successful at these 4X games is that I make very poor decisions with my money.

The egyptian theme is quite interesting because it predates Sierra's cult classic [Pharaoh](https://www.gog.com/game/pharaoh_cleopatra) on PC by over a year. I can't even find a single video showing the game, so here are [some screenshots.](http://nokoribigamer.blog62.fc2.com/blog-entry-72.html) Yup, it's gruesome. [Ambition of Ceasar II](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w72oW2CxdHM) on the Mega Drive arguably looks better than this. There are some very unfortunate attempts with 3D, but the 2D segments are not much fancier. The sprites in battle somehow feel like somebody should go to jail for this? Not to deflect blame on another hardware but I am kinda suspecting the project started as a 3DO title.

Somewhat impressively, the visual presentation is not the main reason Nairugawa no Yoake is considered a [_kusoge_](http://nwasianweekly.com/2016/09/kusoge-finding-the-fun-in-terrible-video-games) by some of the very few people who have any thoughts to share about it. The game is maddeningly difficult, due to a steep learning curve, unintuitive priorities, a weird game balance almost entirely determined by randomly-generated weather, unforgiving economic principles and a very realistic approach to the average life expectancy in Sixteenth Century BC Egypt. Bank on this river driving you mad, if not downright _nile_-histic, eh? Eh?

While I was looking for footage just now, I did come across the inevitable few poor souls claiming to have somehow grown fond of the prickly challenge, in the same way you will always find at least one weirdo ordering the highest level of spiciness at the local curry joint. These lucky few will gladly [share a bunch of methods and guidances](https://www.biwako.ne.jp/~ckuro40/game/slg/nairu.html) to get you through the punishing first hours and generations of supreme rulers. One of these wise advices, likely forged through hours of intricate mediterranean diplomacy, is "use the cheat code that lets you control the Enemy A.I.". Alright then.

The notoriously underachieving olympic swimmer Virginia Woolf once asked: _is the lot of the average human being better now than in the time of the Pharaohs?_ Why, YES IT IS!, confidently claps back Nairugawa no Yoake, and I certainly agree that you 21st Century Boys and Girls have much better things to do.

@“chazumaru”#p37243

Ah yes I remember this game, maybe from HG101, or a youtube video of “every obscure Japan only saturn game” unforgettable animation.

Your Saturn import shelf and @“exodus”#3 PC Engine shelves are giving me some kind of feeling, like, maybe I need to re examine my life. Keeping epic and rare import games in nice condition is quite a burden at times.

Cazumaru, you been going off lately!! Woo!!

@“Funbil”#714 NICE how much did you snag it for? That‘s one I’d pick up for a reasonable price as well. It‘s the last of two games on my obscure super famicom list that I didn’t snag!

Damn I didn't realize y'all you're posting the epic imports in here again! I think I'm feeling a little competitive! But all my stuff is in boxes right now! uhhh uhhh
Last one ends with KE or E?
Alright then it's KeroKeroKingu!

@“treefroggy”#p40698 I actually got Ihatovo for about $30 off of nin-nin-game.com! On ebay it was going for around $80, so I had a feeling there should be a better deal out there somewhere… It's still going for that price there if you feel like now is the time!

Okay, seems to me the last letter is o, since 2001 Tokyo is the subtitle, so let's see what our old “pal” David Cage and his associate David Bowie get up to.

I bought this last year and I still haven't played it!! Aah
