I can’t advise anyone on what they should or shouldn’t do re: CRTS but all I’ll say is I know you’ve got a big honkin’ mitsubishi already, maybe you don’t need more. But if you can find someone else who might want it…?

I love how Yuzo Koshiro just uses composite on his Sony crt with all the fancy ports and cheap 300 yen daiso speakers (recently upgraded to 1500 yen funlogy speakers.)
he knows what’s up. he would look at us and call us nerds.
It’s like music producers that test how something sounds in their stock pickup truck
For us fellow composite folks, a user named Hashi in the MiSTer discord has made a bunch of alternative timings for MiSTer’s YC.txt file that really cleans up composite, especially if your TV can do PAL timings. Gets it really close to Svideo. There is some mild vibrating on the Genesis and GBA, but overall I really like the improvements.
This is reflective of some stuff I’ve been saying for a long time: like that 16 bit games sound best on speakers that are only slightly better than the tv speakers you had as a kid, ie computer speakers. I’ve been saying this for years!!
There are exceptions and variations of course.
People with broadcast monitors. What are your speaker solutions? I’m thinking that a pair of pc speakers should be enough but I haven’t used those kinds of speakers in decades. Should I go for something else. I’m trying to not go all the way to receiver and speakers
You could always just use a cheap sound bar.
Not a bad idea at all. I need to find one that takes analog audio. I’ll look on marjetplace
In my van I used sony bookshelf speakers which I found on the side of the road and still had $6 goodwill stickers on them, but only 10% of the time. The other 10% I used the moon speaker on my JVC monitor and loved it. Just as often as the speakers, I used studio headphones.
Now, I use computer speakers.
Anything is fine, just don’t go out of your way for overkill.
Yeah, I’ve been using headphones but it’s kind of a pain to be wired to a preamp the entire time. I’m just going to wait until I see some PC speakers at the goodwill that don’t look like total trash. It’s so easy for me to go nuts and end up with Elac Speakers hooked up to an amp and preamp and then I’ve made something that I can’t easily move around to a different monitor.
I like to use Harman / Kardon Soundsticks and Bose Companion 20 that I both got used for like 50€ each. Sounds nice enough for most stuff!
I wish I had picked up those clear soundsticks back in the day. They looked so gaudy at the time but they aged well.
EDIT: just trying to look up speakers on marketplace had me quickly looking up magnapan speakers. The absolutely worst choice I could make in terms of affordable, low profile speakers. I email a guy with some pc speakers with a small subwoofer before this got out of control. Sadly all the affordable soundbars near me were all optical/bluetooth out at least the first 10 until I got sick of googling model numbers.
I almost bought a set of Dali Oberon On-Wall for my PVM setup that I hardly use, so idk knock yourself out. Could be worse.
For my speakers and headphones I used a reasonably priced D-Class amp from partsexpress that has headphone output! That’s what I recommend.
This is just me but I think soundbars suckkkk
they almost always do. I found a sonos arc at the thrift store that sounds totally fine because of it’s room tuning. I have plaster walls and they make any speaker sound terrible. Sadly it’s optical or wifi only or I’d just use it and I don’t want to deal with the delay analogue to optical converter would cause when optical is bad enough in the delay department. If I don’t hear back from the people I messaged with PC speakers I’m going to get a pair of powered desktop monitors.
