Llorando - David Lynch 1946-2025

You know about death, that it’s just a change, not an end…
It’s time. There’s some fear, some fear in letting go.
Remember what I told you.

My log is turning gold.
The wind is moaning.
I’m dying.
Good night, Hawk.

i think words alone can’t do justice to the impact David Lynch has had on my understanding of myself and the world as i understand it. words alone are just a part, a fragment, of a bigger and more detailed reality that could more truly capture my admiration. it is very sad.

“Don’t you think when people tell you you’re allowed to do whatever you want as long as it’s not sexually X-rated that they should stand behind their word and show your cow?”

I do, David. I really do.

Remembered the way Badalamenti describes Lynch directing him. “that’s tearing my heart out”

This all comes after finishing my partner’s first ever viewing of the entire series, on the anniversary of David Bowie’s death SEVEN days ago. She literally was born and raised in the Twin Peaks area in the same town Kale Maclachlan is from, but never watched the show before I watched it with her.

I’m late to this thread because I spent the day in his honor.

Today, I woke up to a call from my best buddy at 11am. I cried, blasting Jimmy Scott Sycamore Trees, Audreys Dance… I follow Michael Horse and Kale on instagram, their posts were the first I saw.

Hit up two more friends, they both knew why I was calling. Made plans to go to Rae’s Diner in Santa Monica.

I don’t need anything, Ray… I want… and I want that information.

(it’s a 10/10 diner. We showed up at 1pm, an hour before close.)

Couldn’t find my original ShowTime Twin Peaks the Return Laura Palmer Double Exposed Missing Poster Forest Black T-shirt, so I didn’t go with all black for mourning like I wanted, but I have two other shirts from twede’s diner and literally dress like a twin peaks character every day with my fricking vintage mt.rainier bucket hat and shit so we put that shit on.

So it was around noon, I skipped coffee to wait to get to Rae’s where I had three or four cups and a veggie omelette, my go-to for all diner’s cause they’re never vegetarian-forward and you just gotta know what to get and you can’t go wrong with veggie omelette unless you’re strict vegan. (My friend was footing the bill so I am not)

Also there is a monument to David Lynch I did not know about that is walking distance from my work. We were the first to leave anything under it around noon, roses, later cookies and coke. By the end of the day it was full and hipsters were there taking photos.

I had a great day. The coffee and food was magic and fueled me really making a lot of incredible progress in my spiritual life, no foolies.

Lost Highway OST is the most Insert Credity Lynch OST, but if I were to make a video game based on a Lynch film it would probably be a Dungeon Crawling RPG where your party is Twin Peaks characters and you go through the mystery recruiting them like in Suikoden or something something Project X Zone never played it. (Like you’d have a party that consists of Sailor (Nicholas Cage), Pete Martell (Jack Nance, Kale, Michael Horse (Deputy Hawk), Laura Dern (Aerith Gainsborough), Ray Wise could be a boss.

But yeah we’re all pretty fucked up and so was I but town is so chill after the fires cause everybody who aint a real Los Angelino is gone.

The symbolism of his passing after the fire is very clear to me.

I haven’t read any replies yet. I’ll update with photos maybe link some tunes.

I really wish i could go back to Twede’s now

I’m not as sad at this news as I thought I would be, because I know he’ll never be forgotten. There are so many influences David Lynch has had on people, and new artists who are influenced by him without realising it, because the people who inspired them were in turn inspired by Lynch.

While I’m a huge fan of his works, my biggest influence from him was taking up Transcendental Meditation and learning about ideas. I’ve been doing TM for about 15 years now and it helped me grow and learn a lot about both myself and the world around me. It’s a part of my life and always will be, and I credit David Lynch for being the person who inspired me to follow it. I started it at a time in my life where I wasn’t who I am now, but has a huge part of who I am today and hopefully who I am tomorrow.

One part of his life people don’t always think of when thinking of him, is his writing outside of scripts. He didn’t write as much as I’d have liked, but one thing he did is one of my favourite books - Catching the Big Fish. I read it all the time for inspiration, ideas, thoughts, clarity and many other things, even just a thought for the day. And now more than ever I think the last page, In Closing, rings truer now than ever before. A perfect way to end a truly amazing, influential life which we all got to enjoy and will for many generations to come:

May everyone be happy. May everyone be free of disease.
May auspiciousness be seen everywere. May suffering belong to no one.
Peace.

But you know what music this makes me wanna listen to more than any?
Yaqui-Mescalero Apache-Zuni and other native music.

He’s in the White Lodge Now. :smiling_face_with_tear:
He loved Los Angeles so much, and he understood fire.:sob:
I don’t know if he passed before, or after the fires. But if it’s after, I’m gonna believe that is why he chose to let go.

I feel bad that I did not know this man or his work but who seemed like a good human to know and now I will only come to appreciate his vision after he is gone. All I knew of him was the ‘fix your hearts or die’ quote and I guess knowing that is good enough. I am grateful though my IC colleagues in next weeks episode did give me some recommendations of what to watch suited to my tastes.
