@copySave I’ve also found that the original 64 is the only console I have that looks awful passing through my Retrotink. I made the move to place my CRT in storage earlier this year to save space but it’s meant I just never play N64 anymore. The arrival of the core in cannot come at a better time.
So I got my MiSTer today. Was pretty stoked to play around with it at lunch but it… doesn‘t seem to work? I got the MisterAddons preconfigured bundle, but no controller or usb keyboard will do anything with the menu that loads up. Does anyone know if there’s any tutorial for how to go about setting it up? I tried plugging stuff into both what appear to be controller ports (the 6 on the sides) as well as the User IO Port, no dice.
My first guess would be that the provided USB hub became disconnected from the DE-10 nano at some point during shipping.
Do the usb ports give any power? like if you connect a controller/dongle does it power on?
@穴 Doh! I figured it out. I messaged the support and they were quick to respond. I guess the USB hub power splitter for some reason wasn’t in the main packaging. It was in the bottom of the box instead, so I didn’t grab it (the shipping box, not the mister box inside it. Cheers for the response!
@Ergoja I actually forgot that the usb hub needs another power source in the pre config misters since I’m running a pretty barebones and diy setup.
I just assumed it was the usb micro-b connection inside due to my disdain and distrust of micro-b lol
@穴 I think I should take some time to understand all the hardware so–should something else muck up, I can just fix it myself. I only bought the pre-configured to save time, but I do feel like a goof for – 20 minutes after opening it, contacting the support team without even checking all the contents of the package hah! :D
Saturn core hit main! Run update_all
I don't think Y/C composite or .chd support is integrated yet but I don't imagine that's gonna take very long
@MegaSigil LETS DO IT!
Main Saturn core is working for me over composite with the YC board, but it’s off center. Didn’t see a yc.txt entry but I did have an earlier version of the core with YC, so maybe it carried from there? At any rate, it should be fixed in the next update:
Also the core only requires a single 128mb stick of RAM!
It’s glorious:
Yeah, messed around with it a bit over component and it was off center but everything I tried ran great. Pretty cool.
This is nuts. What a year for the MiSTer.
This is the current progress on the N64 core. Most of the not working games use a Translation Lookaside Buffer instruction that needs to added. More info here (and some patches to bypass some game’s TLB calls, like Mario 64’s putty face intro)
The latest unstable version of the Saturn core is fixed so that the image is centered for analogue out. Playing some Batsugun before work
Mister Laggy display latency tester. $12!

FYI - Public Beta Saturn core now supports YC video (and centered) and CHD files. Getting closer…
As a person who spent a whole night getting Saturn CHDs onto my mister not realizing it was incompatible, I appreciate these updates
Good article here about how cheap HDMI-to-VGA DACs can give you poor visuals on a CRT TV:
DAC Test Results - Google Sheets
This can be especially helpful if you think your picture is too dim on a MiSTer
I'm really surprised by how poorly the MiSTer addons analogue board performed
@穴 Yeah the old Analog IO board has been due for an overhaul.
Mister Addons been working on another one for a while now. Hopefully they’ll be done before the end of the year.
Plus he’s making a DAC with Mini Din 10 AV out.
@copySave
As I recall this is sort of a known issue with analog io boards in general. It’s maybe overstated (I’ve got no complaints about how mine looks) but you get better colors on direct video, which is pushed through to the DAC in one of those hdmi -> vga converters. Is he still working on a direct video solution for people who want dual ram and analog video out? That was what I was waiting for.
@donrumata Yeah that’s what the new board is supposed to do - analog with full 24bit color and dual ram, plus YC/Composite/YPbPr/RGB out. I switched over the HDMI Direct Video after the PS1 core came out and I use my Analog IO board for Tate mode shmups on an IPS monitor. Been a pretty big year for Mister Addons analog video offerings on MiSTer in general with the YC Cores/Board and RF adapter, so a little more time for the full new IO will be worth it.
