FYI there an older build of the TMNT core you can get. Jotego is currently working on the core to support more Konami arcade games, but the previous work by Furrtek is available and many of the bugs were fixed by paulb-nl
Just put the .mbr file into the _Arcade folder and the .rbf file into the _Arcade/cores folder. Highly recommend using an Arcade LPF filter (2khz 1st for me) for the audio as it can be kind of intense.
You can’t map ds4 touchpad clicks. you can use it as analogue toggle button tho
Regarding Laggy, it is normal to get different numbers for top, middle, bottom rectangles on OLED and same numbers on plasma tv. Plasma has same numbers but still need to adjust for lags (-0 top, -0.5 middle, -1 bottom)
I tried Saturn core again and got much much better result. Sega games gave me issues probably because my ram is old version, which really soured me when I first tried the core. I got really go streak of games running once I moved away from Sega games so I’m pretty happy with the core. Hopefully srg could improve ram compatibility
and here’s a barebones setup guide to keep the overall cost at around $300
In other news, TLB is being added to the N64 so you can now play the Castlevanias, Goemons, Turoks, Goldeneye, Paper Mario, and a few others! This brings the total non-playable games to just 10. 12/17/2023 update: Everything works except Jet Force Gemini - merry holidays y’all!
Wow, that N64 core is really coming along! Only ten non-playable games is impressive. It'll be fun to watch the “Perfect” category slowly start to exist in 2024
@copySave Also need ram version above 2.9 for best compatibility. My ram is probably older version so have a lot of audio drops especially for Sega games.
I really wish that Saturn core spreadsheet has more details like N64 one. It’s pretty useless for tracking bugs and overall state of the core.
@copySave from what I understand it’s not that it has appreciated in value but rather that all this time it has had a low price cause it’s subsidized due to some Intel education thing. And the subsidy is being slowly lowered.
I‘ve been catching up on the show and in some recent episode (I’m listening to them going backwards newest to oldest as that‘s how my podcasts are just set up at the moment) and Frank and Tim geeked out for a bit about an Atari game I was interested in but can’t remember. My questions are:
1) What the heck game were they talking about?
2) What are your favorite recent games worth dipping your toes in on MiSTer lately?
3) OR what have you stumbled upon recently that you're planning to go all the way with?
This doesn't quite count, but I was in the St. Marks Barcade recently and was kind of bumming out on the dim screens and loose controls of TMNT, Simpsons, etc etc, until I came across a Neo Geo multi-game machine with BLAZING STAR and proceeded to have a fantastic time even though the setup was just as blasted as everything else. Think I'm going to try and get through the whole thing. It seems like a reasonable game that was meant for mere mortals to play, as opposed to a lot of other shm*ps.
4) Also anyone got one of those RetroTink 4Ks on the way? Very curious about those.
The Tengai Makyou - Ziria translation that just came out (for PCE-CD)
Nice! Yeah Blazing Star looks great on the MiSTer. TMNT arcade is in beta but should be out soon. Imagine Simpsons and X-Men won’t be far behind.
4. Don’t have one yet, but once OLED displays get higher refresh rates at around 500hz I’ll probably get one (happy with my CRTs for old stuff till then). Good video here:
I finally got a y/c active encoder, excited to check it out. Quick question for those of you who are in the know – is it possible to output component from the analog IO board and composite/svideo over direct video at the same time or will I need to swap between different INI files?
@mindleftbody You’ll have to swap as it affects the color output pins on both Analog IO’s VGA port and the HDMI Direct Video signals. It sets the mode via this line in the ini: vga_mode=ypbpr ; supported modes: rgb, ypbpr, svideo, cvbs. rgb is default.
Thankfully you can just press the Down face button and press a direction on the d-pad to switch profiles quickly, or use Wizzo’s script and change the .ini in a browser.
@copySave
I forgot there was a button combination for quickly switching between ini files, thanks for the reminder! I messed around with composite video a bit before work, genesis and TG16 both look so good! It’s definitely going to be my preferred way for playing certain stuff.
Does everything look good here? Will I be missing anything significant with this model? I know it’s the standard 128 SDRAM instead of the dual RAM model that the digital variant uses, but I think I’d rather have the VGA output to avoid messing with DACs and potential issues with Direct Video.
@JoJoestar If CRT usage is your goal this should be more than fine. I have the Dual Ram and Direct video set up on my Mister, but it really doesn’t have much use currently. Mister will always be at its heart a tinkerer’s device. But this will get you in the door and learning the ins and outs.
