This just popped up on my radar — It came out a little over a week ago on PC, Switch, Xbox and Playstation. The spritework and animation is beautiful.
Definitely calls to mind Moonside and Deltarune. I love some of these enemy character designs and the color pallets are gorgeous. I wish some of the anime ladies’ boobs weren’t QUITE so big, but definitely still curious about how this game is as a whole.
Wow. I’m not sure if this is what happened, but it is wild to think that enough time has passed between now and DELTARUNE Chapter 2 that an indie RPG could have feasibly been inspired by, developed, and released. It doesn’t feel that long but a lot can happen in three years…
Satoshi Tajiri & Eraserhead.
Maybe explains why the graphics in gen 1 are so misunderstood and amazing.
posted? i don’t see it as clearly as the link here with earthbound stuff (beyond link’s awakening), but interesting all the same
Barely mentions Majora’s Mask. My take on the whole Twin Peaks Zelda Link’s Awakening thing is that Nintendo execs coyly mentioned Link’s Awakening without addressing the Llama in the room, which is that Majora’s Mask is truly the most Twin Peaks-inspired in the series. Nintendo playing it close to the chest, and game consumers not reading between the lines.
…go onnn (with the parallels; legit interested to see them fleshed out)
May have already said in the thread, there was an interview where they said ideas from Mother 3 64DD were later used in Majoras Mask. You’ve got clock town and its characters, the town is a character itself. You’ve got the cafe, the lodge/inn, each room has its own mechanic. I dont have time at the moment to list it out right now, but I think if you play it and watch twin peaks you’ll get it. In general the town scapes of the series were elevated after that, windfall island of wind Waker is like that too. This just came to mind, the way the zora guitarist washes up dead on the shore for you to find unceremoniously is just like what went down with Laura Palmer. I just thought of that just now, that kind of stuff is everywhere. It’s really something the way seemingly every Japanese game scenario writer took notes from Twin Peaks, but it makes sense, given the evolution of cutscenes in games, and the way Twin Peaks was on a whole next level from anything that had ever been on television before. So they wanted that same intrigue to make their games interesting and suck you into their world in the same way everyone got sucked in, mesmerized, and hypnotized by twin peaks.
I am really excited to play Off when the Switch version drops.
majora’s mask is a game about becoming a doppelganger over and over in a game that is itself a doppelganger of ocarina. what i’m saying is that twin peaks the return is the majora’s mask of television
