my own experience using a switch was: the games generally ran poorly and looked smeary (especially 3rd party games, the UI was bland and laggy, one of the controllers stopped working after a while, and on screen text was often minuscule to the point that reading it was a chore. On the other hand, yes it was simple to operate and it is smaller and lighter than almost all handheld PCs. That it sold well is a separate point. I just don’t see the simplicity and basic usability as compensating for the former (imo) problems. I suppose you’re right that it was novel in 2017 but again, it’s been largely surpassed in most aspects. Maybe switch 2 will fix those aforementioned problems though idk
A friend of mine has got one, so I’m going to use that opportunity to see and touch it first before diving in. I’m certainly interested, but I’m also a little wary of how old it already is by the time it came here, and have have slight concerns about how well it would perform going forward.
I loved the Steam Controller though, so I’m already likely to be on board with their little touch pad type deals.
Also,
NES/SNES (2d gaming / refined)
N64/Gamecube (3d gaming / refined)
GB(C)/GBA (handheld gaming / refined)
Wii/WiiU (Motion control and “blue ocean” / refined)
DS/3DS (Dual/touch screen gaming / refined)
Switch/Switch 2 (hybrid / refined)
These have always come in pairs for their entire gaming history
Computer parts manufacturers call this the “tick-tock” cycle.
I assume Nintendo calls it something goofy.
Please more Yesos in the World so that I can get at least a 0.5% chance to find one at launch.
Idk man, you’ve got guts of steel if you don’t get motion sickness from the original Brandish + sequels camera
My hope is Falcom remakes 2+3 in the style of their first remake, but I’m guessing it sold like crap so prob not :(
The Tick-Tock Clock
I’m sort of feeling the same way. I’m curious about it, here mixed things about how it performs. I will likely just wait and see what a Steam Deck 2 looks like.
can you imagine how much everyone would be forced into respecting nintendo if they named it the Spank
This post reminded me of this unofficial pre film short: https://youtu.be/4TdczoetXk4?si=ouU8jSGQySnCbDXQ
it’d be cool if they had a trim mario kart pack-in game if switch2’s gonna sell at 400 usd (and realistically also 400gbp). like 8 racers, four tracks, no kart customising, online. but also, like MK wii, shows off the modularity and multifunctionality of the controllers.
They should pack in a demo pack for a bunch of games like my PSX did back in the day.
I am actually kind of annoyed at how much bigger than the Switch 1 they made it.
Agreed, I would have preferred if it was the same size as the switch lite. I have a purse that just barely fits my switch, wallet, & phone that was perfect for flights.
We’ll see how it feels in the hands, but I thought the joycons were the perfect size. Now especially with the extra goopy bit, I’m assuming if you slide on the wrist bands it will be even wider? I’m wondering if the only wristband will be the one they showed on the mouse accessory.
Yeah my oled switch fits in my tom bihn bag perfectly even in the slip case I got for it and that’s been great for train rides. A bigger model is fine if they keep around a smaller one that isn’t pared back in features or power but I’m almost certain the original switches will fill that spot for a while before there’s a Switch 2 lite or something.
my reaction to switch 2 news: this seems like nintendo going like “why fix what isn’t broken?”. iterative improvements (internal upgrades, and some external fixes and the like) are to be expected, but as a whole, the switch is a successful system, so it’s not a surprise that the new console aims to build upon that very success. colour me surprised when game journalists are all like WHY IS THIS SO SIMILAR. like… this is what most people want iirc??
i’m expecting around like $350ish, similar to the original switch at launch, maybe even priced around $400 or so if nintendo chooses to go that route. but i’m cautiously optimistic for what the switch 2 brings to the table. i was never one for being gung-ho on graphics to begin with, and i’m not some hardcore sweaty framerate nerd or anything, but it’d still be nice to see how games look and perform on this.
We’ll all have a lot more to say when there are games to talk about.
For my use the bigger size is a plus, the joycons hurt in my hands when trying to grasp the system while lying in bed playing. I haven’t had too many games where the performance effected my fun. so any boost in performance will be great.
While y’all debating whether Switch 2 is Ken Griffey Jr. or Bronny James in the first case of console nepotism in a while, it seems the immediate future of the OG, the GOAT, El Numero Uno is to go back and save all the recent duds of the mobile industry. After Hello Kitty Island Adventures being freed from Apple Arcade purgatory in January…
… Another mobile game with Sanrio characters is coming out in March, thanks to Imagineer. This time Sanrio Characters Miracle Match is a… Dead By Daylight clone(!?) where Kuromi replaces the serial killer of your choice. Apparently came out two years ago on mobile.
Looking forward to Infinite Nikki Definitive Edition in a few years.
