I kinda regret not putting a Western on my list. The Big Gundown or The Tall T could have fit in somewhere for sure.

I find it interesting that some of my favorite actors are not in any of my favorite movies

Not kidding this is what I was thinking about when considering the multiple versions thing

Good thing you only need 10 ;)

You can collapse this into one entry to squeeze two more movies on there if you want. @Taliesin_Merlin and others who list one/all of those would need to agree however

Have you seen any of those Takeshi Kitano movies? For some reason that’s what “hangout movie” immediately calls to mind, although I’ve only seen Kikujiro and HANA-BI

The real reason to go through this process is just to recommend stuff. Wasn’t aware of this one!

There are also tons of movies that are fun to watch but that aren’t actually great or even good.

I took care to write “10 movies you love” for that reason ;)

is this about walton goggins or

ahhh you’re making me want to add Pig somewhere (probably replacing Pirates which has nostalgia love but overlaps with some of the others too much).

Goggins, yes, but also Mads, Dafoe, Fassbinder, koji yakusho, Harry dean Stanton (how did I not have a Wenders film on my list!)

The overwhelming feeling this thread is giving me. There’s so many good ones out there!

As much as I have 2 other films I’d love to put on there, it seems weird to claim 11+ hours as a single entry. I never watch all that in a single sitting, so I think it would be unfair for me to call it 1 film.

Another thing about making lists like these: each time I do it I’m always like “ugh these choices seem so obvious and boring.” And maybe that’s partially because they are, but also because I’ve been thinking of these movies for a long time. So I try to resist the urge or novelty for novelty’s sake.

Not really, only select violent scenes from Zatōichi at a friend’s house when I was like 12.

Honestly, I usually find it more interesting when a really normal movie is tucked in among a bunch of fancy ones because it like immediately gives it a mysterious veneer of being a secret arthouse masterpiece.
