@âdonrumataâ#p77257 Power Shovel! Port of a Taito arcade game. Another great use of dual analogs. Keep ambitious!
this game owns so hard. i got a burnt copy of this and bishi bashi special when i got a hand-me-down psx from a friend, like, 20 years ago or something.
we went to some guy's house who was a dealer of pirated games. he ushered us into a room which was clearly once a dining room and still had a big ass dining table in the cente, taking up most of the space. it had a couple of PCs on it, a CD duplicator, piles and piles of discs in and out of cases. and the walls on either side were floor to ceiling shelves COMPLETELY full of burnt games, fairly neatly organised. i remember asking him how he got stuff since it was obvious he wasn't relying on obtaining physicals of everything to make copies of, and the internet sucked for downloading anything big back then like ISOs (especially in australia). he explained he had some sort of exotic and hideously expensive internet setup involving ISDN (possibly _two_ lines??) and got everything from usenet.
anyway. power shovel owns. dual stick heavy machinery operation simulatot? with cute turtles to scoop out of a pond?? come on now!!
@âRlanâ#p115611 What's that third-to-last game?
@âFunbilâ#p115710 Slap Happy Rhythm Busters!
I started Vampire Hunter D tonight. I remember seeing it in a shop as a Resident Evil loving child and wanting to play it but it never got priority on the Christmas list so I never got it and forgot about it. Well 25 years later I can say that Child Chopemon dodged a bullet but Adult Chopemon is having a good time.
It is very 6/10. The controls have a lag to them and you always over shoot the thing you want to interact with. It is a Resident Evil like and trying to do melee combat with some of the fixed cameras is very frustrating. You lose health really quickly! There is a weird consume enemies to charge a meter then press Select to change what that meter does then use the meter but only if you haven't got an inventory item equipped system that has no explanation in game and a poor explanation in the manual. I know child me would not have got on with it.
However, Japanese made Resident Evil likes are sweet nectar to me and this ticks most of the boxes even if it doesn't tick them well. The environment art is especially good to look at.
The game takes place in a vampire castle, 10,000 years after humanity was all but wiped out. The castle is a mix of gothic with low technology and that kind of bright high class decor I don't know a good name for. It has black and white marble floors and red walls. You know the style.
I can recommend if you crave Resident Evil likes, you like the Vampire Hunter D art design (it is a Bloodlust tie in) and are Insert Credit enough to enjoy a 6/10 PS1 game.

Iâve been playing Guardianâs Crusade lately on plane trips. It's straight forward and so easy on the eyes. I like it a lot.

I feel like Soul of the Samurai shouldnât be obscure, but Iâve just about never seen anyone mention it. Itâs Konami doing Onimusha before Onimusha, and doing it very well. Great music, fun action, and it even has Onimushaâs insta-kill counter mechanic and dual protags.

I remember it was originally advertised as "Shogun Assassins," and I guess Columbine persuaded them to come up with something less violent.
I really liked Soul of the Samurai (Ronin Blade here in the UK)! I played it recently and got stuck on some sliding precipice nonsense but really enjoyed everything else about it. Good looking environments and a good attempt at doing fixed camera melee combat.
phew, what an amazing thread! great time to have a PSIO as well, haha
most of the ones i'd post have been here already, and others like incredible crisis, gunner's heaven etc seem pretty well known to this community...so here's what i got left at the moment!
One - this is a fun 3rd person action/shooter that i sometimes think wanted to be bruce willis' apocalypse before that game happened? i never get terribly far but i have a good time with it
Herc's Adventure - as s huge fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, learning that much of the lucasarts team also did this made it an insta-buy for me in the day. i don't think it's as good as that, but worth your time! _"my dad's a god!"_
oh as a big fan of Um Jammer Lammy i can't recommend playing the JP version enough; US version censors the last stage (hell) and it's so dumb

@âNekoâ#p123750 this seems like a silly question but is that a filter?? If so which one?
@âsabertoothalexâ#p123757 itâs crt-royale kuroizumi and itâs a little dark, but decent at fullscreen on a nice OLED.
I have just learned how to emulate. (Not a bit!) What are some good PS1 smokables? I love horror. Clock Tower 2 is up next, though I know it isn't the best.
