Regarding Ohtani’s contract, like Herb said, 46 mil is the average annual value being used. The math on that is over my head, but it’s crazy that that’s also the number being used for competitive balance which allowed the Dodgers to pad their pitching staff with Glasnow and Yamamoto without getting taxed that hard. I fully agree with y’all that it’s nuts 700 mil is even a number that can be tossed around. Does seem they were able to game the system tho.

I love this. And the Timberwolves are also still in, at least for another whole round! What a strange new world we live in.

It’s that time: the May banzuke has been announced!

East Rank West
Terunofuji Yokozuna
Hoshoryu Ozeki Kotozakura
Takakeisho Ozeki Kirishima
Wakamotoharu Sekiwake Abi
Asanoyama Komusubi Onosato
Atamifuji #1 Daieisho
Hiradoumi #2 Gonoyama
Takayasu #3 Tobizaru
Oho #4 Ura
Onosho #5 Meisei
Takerufuji #6 Midorifuji
Nishikigi #7 Mitakeumi
Takanosho #8 Kotoshoho
Tamawashi #9 Shodai
Shonannoumi #10 Kinbozan
Sadanoumi #11 Hokutofuji
Ichiyamamoto #12 Nishikifuji
Mitoryu #13 Churanoumi
Ryuden #14 Oshoma
Tokihayate #15 Roga
Tomokaze #16 Takarafuji
Tsurugisho #17

Takerufuji jumps from M17 to M06, after winning his debut tournament in the top division. I thought he may have gone even higher, but I suppose that is reasonable. I expect to see big things from him again, but he’ll have a much harder first week this time. M06 is right on the cusp of where the match organises decide you need to fight all the top rankers in the first week.

The tournament starts on Sunday, May 12th.

Severino almost throws a no-no and then he loses it and we lose by two runs

Incredible :upside_down_face:

@GameBeginnerGirl Re: your post in the Vita thread…

Whoa!!! I’m a Swallows fan as well! Still trying to figure out who I want to root for in the Pacific League. I recently ruled out the Nippon-Ham Fighters due to their kinda-skeevy marketing tactics and ~vibes~. It’s currently between the Lions, the Buffaloes, and Marines for me – I’ve got to look into them more. Leanin’ a bit toward the Lions.

I was there for the game last night and feel like I accidentally contributed to jinxing his no-no. Noticed & mentioned it around the 7th, then next thing you know I hear whispers in the rows above and below me about it, someone mentions we’re not supposed to talk about it, and next thing you know there goes a blooper over the infield :(

In more recent Elly De La Cruz is a freak news, he might’ve just thrown the fastest baseball ever.

Eyyy nice! Go go Swallows!

Why follow a PaLeague team in that case?

For one, I want to have one team to root for per league – otherwise, I’m just focusing on the Central League, and then I’m missing out on half of NPB. (As an aside, I’m also lookin’ into finding a women’s softball team to root for!) More importantly, though, options to watch Ce games outside of Japan are… limited to nonexistent? Meanwhile, there’s a glut of Pa streaming packages.

I went to a Yomiuri Giants game a while back. It was really cool, the environment there was completely different from an MLB game. Where MLB games’ vibe is a place to sit down and have a few beers (though the pitch clock has changed that a bit), the NPB vibe is much more bombastic and engaging to the fan experience. I still an MLB guy but it definitely gave me a greater appreciation for the cultural differences in sports, even at the highest levels.

We lost despite I thought largely controlling the game and having better chances. Going down 2-0 in the first 7 minutes sucked and I was prepared for the worst but the team really fought back. I feel like they’re trending in the right direction from What I’m seeing on field. So many good individual performances tonight.

got bullied by smith, but she does that to pretty much everyone what can you do. Hopefully the national team will start phasing Morgan out of the 9 and move her off the wing so she can do the same in the Olympics

The Bruins are gonna get reverse swept aren’t we

For gods sake :triumph:

it is friday may 3rd

and the Knicks are

more than ever

I’m shocked the Leafs have even forced game 7 tbh. It’s really hard to decide which is the funnier outcome for that series but either way it’ll be good

I feel for Leafs fans but we all have to admit that the 2013 series game 7 is one of the funniest (because most tragic) NHL moments in recent history.
