I'm here to tell everyone we had a pretty chill time and also to emotionally manipulate you all into the next meet since @saddleblasters came from Maryland to hang!

came from Maryland
@saddleblasters is there any chance you have some insider knowledge on cheap transport I may be able to take advantage of (New England) or is this a DC <--> NY thing?
@ācaptainā#p69840 I usually just take the Lucky Star from South Station to Canal Street right off the Manhattan Bridge when coming from Boston. Elsewhere in New England might be best to check Wanderu for buses. There's the Northeast Regional Amtrak too which goes through virtually every town in Connecticut and then Providence and then Boston
@āTracyDMcGrathā#p69841 Flixbus used to be my go-to cheap option but it's been steadily climbing in price for the past couple months. Wanderu looks promising right now (humorously enough it might be best to just get Flixbus tickets through Wanderu)
EDIT honestly any of these ways is fine if we determine a date far enough in advance
Yeah, I had a really good time yesterday! We walked around the Japan Day parade and fair for a few hours with @āLoBFCantiā#839 ās girlfriend, then he and I went to Xenozero and spent around two hours playing the card game heās been working on, which I thought was really cool! It had an inebriated-musicians-engaging-in-drunken-combat theme with a cool art direction judging from the cards with finished art, and also some pretty deep positional mechanics. Some of you who are card game aficionados should contact him about helping play test it! Heās been working on it for a few years, so I had a lot of fun listening to him describe the whole process of making it, how much itās changed, the reasoning for various decisions, etc.

I donāt have any deep wisdom. I just check the websites for all the bus companies I know of and pick the ones that are cheapest. I rode a different company in than I rode out. Prices might on average be lower on the DC to New York route because of more bus volume, but I remember the year I lived in Boston I got the (mythical? Iām not sure how common they actually are) $1 megabus tickets you see advertised on the side of all their busses for a trip to see my friend in Philadelphia, and I only booked about a week in advance for that one. A lot of it probably just comes down to either luck or booking ahead.

June NYC Meet up potentially? Put your availability in the link (or here/both)
@kory
@TracyDMcGrath (I went to this place GUMBO (in Dumbo) that is a game co-working space, was pretty chill and got good feedback)
@saddleblasters
@Nemoide
@Funbil
I'm currently slightly overwhelmed by having made tentative plans to see many different friend groups and am feeling like I may be spreading myself too thin if I try to commit to anything. Also the summer heat makes me melt into a miserable puddle of inactivity.
So I'll try to make any meetups if they get planned for a Sunday but I can't promise anything. Apologies for flakiness!
@kory
@TracyDMcGrath
@saddleblasters
@Nemoide
@Funbil
and for any one else in the NYC area
OKAY. Started a new job this month and my schedule was an absolute mess but things are looking stable now so Let's try this again! Pretty much free every Fri & Sat this month.
https://rallly.co/admin/PrXUJfZdd0lc?sharing=true | Be sure to post back here that you put your dates
VGM Jazz night is this Friday at OS NYC if any is interested. Friends run the thing and I'm finally gonna be able to make one this week. Entry fee is $20 for the place but you can be in there and use any setup for the entire day.
This whole summer looks pretty brutal right now, not sure if Iāll have a free weekend, but Iāll keep an eye on the thread in case that changes
Thatās the case for me as well, this summerās pretty much bunk for me - some day though!!
If anyone is ever in the western side of South Dakota, maybe to throw tomatoes at Mount Rushmore or something. Feel free to reach out!
Depending on how I feel today after archery, I may be going to the Famicase exhibit at capsule corner in fashion district of DTLA today if anyone wants to meet.
I havenāt gone this far in several years. I donāt do this kind of stuff that often anymore. but famicase is one I was obsessed with when it began when I was 14(?), so 18 years later I guess Iāll casually go lol.
Four people Iāve known from around that time have art in this gallery, but who's countin'! I have mixed feelings about the whole thing but itās nbd.
Insert credit people come meet at the exhibit, that would bring much joy. I will be going alone, may have one friend meet me there but it's not likely they'll make it.
The way Iāve grown in the past 18 years, Iām āover itā, but if I feel like doing it Iāll go.
Edit: eh Iām not going today. Offer still stands theyāre open all week until 11pm
@āLoBFCantiā#p76094 I'm about an hour to an hour and a half outside NYC and could theoretically participating in a gathering there!
Anyone else here in or near Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill or NC Piedmont area? I have been thinking about making a trip to Lost Ark in Greensboro for a while and thought Iād see if thereās anyone here that would want to make it a happening.
@āKarnovskiā#p76119
I'm about eight hours east of you, which is basically right next door
@āedwardā#p76975 Minnesota??
@āKarnovskiā#p77070
Yep!
@āedwardā#p77099 nice! I really enjoy Minnesota. Even outside of the twin cities I've always had a good time. Also found some really cool retro game stores last time I was out that way.
