In my neck of the woods we called it “ess-enn-e-ess-nine-ex”.
also I don‘t know if I’m making this up but I think I have heard or read somewhere that japanese people sometimes abreviate it as “sufami”. This makes sense in my head but I don‘t know if I’m just mixing up bandai's sufami turbo with another abreviation.
The point I'm trying to make here is that if japanese people can call it "sufami", I'm gonna start calling it the "supnint"

@穴 That’s the most common nickname for the hardware, yes. (The “u” of スーファミ Sūfami is long i.e. doubled in pronunciation). And, unlike メガドラ Megadora for the Mega Drive, the Super Famicom was and is still relevant enough in popular culture that probably virtually anyone above the age of twenty* would know at least vaguely what you are talking about when you mention the スーファミ Sūfami without any prior context in a conversation.
Same thing with プレステ Puresute for Playstation, although without context, people would probably assume you are talking about the most recent model / generation of Playstation.
*I initially wrote “sixteen” but I now wonder if today’s average high school kids would know what a Super Famicom is… But those who would know would almost certainly know
Sūfami = Super Famicom = my parents’ generation’s Switch.
In my parts it was “le Super Nintendo”, distinguishing it from “le Nintendo”. In English it's Super Nintendo or S.N.E.S..

@connierad I did a job at that park when I was working as a technician at a computer store in the area!! It was early spring and I was on my own running around upgrading computers while the grounds were shut down and empty.
