Show me anything Atari (previously the Atari VCS thread)

I can't believe it. Did anyone here pre order or back this thing? Would be really interested to see what people think about it.

I really really like the idea, and was very excited when I learned about it. But between my computer and my ps4 I already have everything I need to do what it does so I don‘t feel like I’d get much use out of it.

But the idea of a hybrid gaming/computer box that's highly customizable is really cool.

I had to check if it was still going to be sold here in New Zealand. $200 deposit on $899.99.

Lordy! Well, it's more real than the intellivision at this point but apparently all the software is pretty broken.

so, uh. is there any truth to this? it seems like a weird thing to lie about.

The SouljaGame website was seized by Nintendo and now leads to Nintendo's website.

@“hellomrkearns”#p41326 I did not know that Atari made generic 90s-era cabinets and I never would have guessed they made the Showcase.

Here is a good video on Atari consoles in Japan, although I wonder where they got the Lynx sales number from.

Jaguar GameDrive back in stock, get ‘em while they’re hot.

(You know you want one, @"exodus"#3 😆)

immediate edit: oops, I waited too long to post this…looks like they’re gone already!

@“hellomrkearns”#p56344 I know the guy who made these at Atari Japan! They were given at a local press event in June 2002, when the Japanese Infogrames office rebranded itself as Atari a few months before the headquarters thought this was an excellent idea.

This looks so good.

I‘ve been curious if more IC people might chime in on that collection. I don’t really have a lot of love for Atari and going back to the pre-Jaguar console games is often not very fun, but this collection looks so interesting and thorough and presented in such a novel and appealing way that it's on my wishlist. It seems like it would make for a pretty fun video game history night

EDIT: decided tonight was that night. It is extremely cool so far, and already, I very much hope more collections do things similar to this format

I legit forgot the VCS actually came out.

This is amusing and bizarre. Atari is selling Major Havoc PCBs with nothing on them - no chips or anything - for $255. I estimate that‘s a profit of about $250 if they manage to sell any. But what’s the market for this!?
