Surprised how many times prince of persia was in there! I guess they had high hopes.
In other news: NEC's releasing their own gaming PC, model number PC-GX:

They're making strong callbacks not just to the PC Engine era, but especially to the PC-98 with this project. Buyers will get both 3 free months of Game Pass Ultimate _and_ 3000 yen of free Project EGG store credit for buying & playing classic Japanese PC games.
@âPasokon Deaconâ#p76988 Are those good specs for a brand new gaming PC ?

@âchazumaruâ#p77000 I would say 16GB is not enough anymore, and would go for 32GB of RAM. Otherwise, the rest seems quite reasonable.
@ârejjâ#p77001 For that price point, given the competition, Iâd call this a bad deal for all but the most cautious buyers who want that free year of high-level NEC tech support. The specs are good, but you can source the individual parts & a similar airflow-oriented case for much, much less. (Japanâs PC part market has especially good pricing & supply due to their proximity to Taiwan's chip industry.) And this will have to compete with similar pre-builts from Lenovo, Toshiba, etc.
I think it's really cool that they're investing in their PC legacy again, but I would also much prefer a PC-88/-98 Mini with built-in games and plenty of room to add more via Project EGG. That would be a very cool gadget for a much cheaper price.
@âPasokon Deaconâ#p77004 @ârejjâ#p77001 Thanks! Hmmm if it looked way more obviously like a PC-98, I may have been tempted, but considering your comments, I donât see really the appeal. But it shows that Japan is definitely getting more mainstream about PC gaming if even NEC is coming back in this fieldâŠ

@âPasokon Deaconâ#p77004 oops, I totally didn't look at price at all, I was just looking at the list of components
@âKennyLâ#p77076 see now, make me a new nec pc that looks like that and we are starting to get somewhere.

The one time Game Freak worked with NEC marketing, we got a surprise classic of a puzzle game. I really wish more folks appreciated the studio's puzzler legacy vs. just talking about Pokemon all the time, but what can ya do.
@âPasokon Deaconâ#p77353 yeah youâd think that game freakâs other games with art by ken sugimori would be ripe fodder for youtube videos such as âTHE SECRET POKEMON GAME YOUVE NEVER HEARD OFââŠ. but no one's hip to it.
Yeah⊠The game costs massive yendollars now which might be a limiting factor (though people can just get the ole iso). I donât even own it as a pce liker because by the time I decided "okay Iâll get it" it was over $100. Meanwhile, nowâŠ

"If like me you read video game magazines in the 90s, there were events that we were looking forward to: The Tokyo Game Show and the Consumer Electronic Show. All the novelties were presented there as well as the announcements"
@âtanukiâ#p80548 that bonk mascot outfit is a bit too spooky, when youâve got a human mascot youâve gotta make them rounder and cuter.
