just googled some terms and: very cool! i only started learning how to play mahjong the other day but im super curious to learn more
can i ask you to explain why you have two pairs in a winning hand? also the tiles on the left are flowers right? how do they affect your hand?

I went for toitoi/all triplets, so the two pairs were my wait, meaning the third of either pair would’ve been my winning tile and someone dropped one of them. The two on the left are actually the 1 of bamboo/souzu, and when I’ve taught I say to remember it’s 1 because there is only a single peacock. There are flower tiles included in sets, but they’re wacky tiles used for variant games (I think gambling related, I’ve never dabbled with them) and they do look similar. Also, the reason I have two north tiles on the right is we were playing sanma, the three player equivalent of mahjong that my friends and I basically play because, “Whelp, there’s not a fourth person here yet!” and it has its own weird rule about the north tiles. I hope I clarified things okay!

Lots of you have probably seen it, but it was just a thing that never showed up on my radar until the day before yesterday, when I watched all 10 short episodes of Sex House, a 2012 webseries from the shortlived Onion Digital Studios. Immaculate satire – even down to the tonally perfect production and aesthetics – of reality TV culture that goes in a direction I don’t even want to identify, because it’d be way more fun to hop in blind like I did:
