The forum interrupted my response to inform me of this.

Yeah geez, get a room already.

I wouldn’t be opposed to receiving a dinner roll with my pizza, but some butter or something would be a nice gesture.

This episode has helped me remember that I’ve had a 50% offer on pizza since December that I hadn’t yet redeemed so thank you all for having weird hangups about pizza savers that your municipal government probably won’t even recycle properly

That was part of the response I initially planned on posting: you can oppose little environmentally unsustainable plastic tables AND giant bread rolls awkwardly jammed atop your pizza.

The ideal would be pizza savers made out of, like, molded pulp. I’d even take ones made out of biodegradable plastics.

I want one made from rare earth minerals

I’ll take a gold brick. Just plop it in the middle of the pizza I don’t mind

Well I’ve never gotten the free bread but if we’re being environmentally conscious in our decision here I don’t really see any downside to it. If you think it makes your pizza unworthy of the gram or whatever your objection to it is, well, just put it aside before you take a picture

My dog would eat the dough ball, but she’d probably eat the little plastic table too if given the chance.

I really think she’d prefer the gold.

We don’t just call pizza different things; we put different things in the middle of our pizzas!

(Update: the XL veggie pizza I ordered tonight didn’t come with a pizza saver nor did the cheese touch the lid)

But why though? Is it really just how it looks?

It’s more the idea of something that big and weighty pressing into the cheese, defeating the point of protecting the pizza from mid-delivery shocks. At least the table part of the little plastic table sits above the pizza itself.

If this were just a bread roll in isolation, I wouldn’t have any issue with it.

Yes, it’s the chance of cheese sticking to the bread ball.

If the cheese touches the lid it sticks, and you can’t eat the box to recoup the dried cheese residue. You can eat the dough ball, and because it’s round it doesn’t press evenly on the pizza enough to pick up a substantial amount of cheese.

I forgot pizzas used to have those little plastic things to keep the cheese safe. I don’t think I’ve seen one in several years and have never had any issues anyway.

The little bread turd looks tasty. It’s like an extra bread stick but in a fun shape!

This is what a crumbling economy does to pizza technology. It normalizes the idea that boxes should be flimsy so that Big Plastic can sell you a solution to a problem they created. My pizza is woke. My pizza will make your tummy hurt and you’ll like it.

There’s the argument that steam from the pizza weakens the cardboard and makes it sag, so it’s not the box’s fault. This would also seem to preclude a saver made from molded pulp.
