Smokin' Summer Secret Santa Song Swap Style Signup (SWAP'd!! Check your PMs!))

@“antillese”#p70754 Yeah I was also curious about this! The form asks for links to a place the songs are streamed, and I was just going to put Youtube links – but in some ways it would be easier for me if i could just directly upload MP3s, because some stuff I wanted on my playlist isn‘t on Youtube. It’s not a big deal, because I guess I can upload to Youtube without much hassle. I‘m just always nervous that when I upload music myself it’ll be copyright flagged.

I‘d be willing to pay the $10 on Amazon or Apple or whatever to send my Secret Summer Song Singing Soulmate actual files though I recognize that not everyone may be in that position. Help us figure out what’s going on @Gaagaagiins ! :innocent:

Suppose…

~~Sending secret sweltering summer Santa singles on SoulSeek?~~

Wait no I remembered @Gaagaagiins wants to distribute these so recipient and sender are completely anonymous to each other. But I suppose that means it will be up to the recipient to track down the songs themself.

hmm

I could feasibly send mp3s to my recipient too, and host them on my Google Drive.

I didn't choose any videogame music for my playlist. I found it a lot easier to pull stuff together that I would happily listen to as individual songs whereas videogame music I tend to listen to as an album, and I find it difficult to separate tracks from the context of the rest of their soundtracks.

I actually didn't anticipate that anyone would want to actually host files to make them available for direct download, or as @"Karnovski"#p70666 thought, figure out a way to create YouTube playlists that would stay anonymous. So, kudos to you all for your initiative!

In order to distribute them, I was either going to just copy and paste from the Google Sheets spreadsheet generated by the Form into a PM on the forum, and if that was too cantankerous or produced too messy of an output for whatever reason, I was going to create individual copies of the Spreadsheet one each for each of the individual responses, and provide share links to those. It'd be some busy work... but not much.

As for creating the playlist, that would be convenient for me and the end user for sure, however, since as far as I know the account that creates a playlist is visible on the playlist itself, I thought that might create a problem with anonymity. Not just for maintaining anonymity for the mixtape exchange, but crossing wires between the anonymity we have on the forum and to what degree our YouTube account is anonymous. My real first name is in my YouTube account name, and while I don't have a problem with anyone here knowing what it is (it's Jay! Hello!), it seemed simpler to just not ask for it.

My thinking behind the pick of YouTube links specifically was out of a desire for standardization. At least as far as I know, YouTube doesn't require an account to access the basic features of, and has really an impressively vast collection of quite illegally uploaded music (and we love all of the uploaders with all of our hearts). Anyone who would be loathe to have to open a link at the end of every song could create a YouTube playlist with what they've received as well. So it seemed the closest option for something being universally accessible, usable on a wide variety of devices, as well as having a pretty comprehensive library.

As for the hosting and transfer of files from your own cloud based services and/or YouTube playlists that you can share without having to give away your identity in either sense if you don't want to, I think that's a good idea so long as you can make the point of access available in a text format. If you were to provide a Drive or Dropbox link that would be to a .zip file of everything, I wouldn't object. I mean, if this were some other significantly less chill internet environment I'd worry about at least the hypothetical possibility of people putting viruses into .zip files, but that doesn't seem like a reasonable fear here.

@“Gaagaagiins”#p70763 Thanks dude! This makes more sense now. I understand it now.

And I think your privacy perspective is totally justified and reasonable. My name is visible on the forum in a few places without much work, and I would trust any of you fine people I’ve enjoying spending time with the last two years, but don’t want it as easily scraped by a search spider.

Y’all better hope you do/don’t get my mixtape!

It might be too much to ask of everyone but a burner YouTube account is still free, so that's always an option. Then create the playlist within the account and share it to Mr. Gaagaaglins via pm.

i just finished making my playlist.

thanks for setting this up, gaagaagiins!

While there's no way for me to generate an edit link from an individual submission after the fact, since you hadn't submitted any tracks when you signed up, I just deleted your original blank response. So, just start again whenever you're ready.

Also, you didn't get an email because I disabled the collection of emails completely. Hence the cloying, passive aggressive reminders to bookmark it, hah.

@“Gaagaagiins”#p70780 got it! thanks very much.

seeking an explanation/psychological analysis of the 60/40 split between SoulSilver and HeartGold voters

@“captain”#p70784 Lugia looks way the heck cooler than Ho-Oh.

@“captain”#p70784 i'll say that i voted in an attempt to make it perfectly 50/50, because i have no ponyta horse in that race.

i'm very excited for someone to get my mixtape.

I'm making a mixtape!

I just downloaded Audacity for the first time and I’m having a blast crafting my mixtape! (It only crashed like 4x! I suddenly feel pangs of sympathy for all the intrepid podcast editors out there…much love and much respect @espercontrol <3<3)

Just exported and listened to my first draft all the way through—needs some tightening up (turns out vg tracks can be pretty repetitive!) but I’m really excited to share the final product😎

i have submitted a playlist, just summery stuff that i would like to hear really! i hope whoever gets it enjoys it.

I just submitted a playlist, excited to receive one!

oops, i think i‘m going to redo my mixtape. hope this doesn’t become a habit.
