I haven’t done a runthrough as Amy, but I did do Knuckles in Sonic 1, and that was pretty cool. I also like the Story mode for the games - getting to play all the classic titles (1, CD, 2, 3, Knuckles) all in a row with essentially unlimited lives is satisfying. And the extra features are well done too. My only negative is the changed soundtrack in Sonic 3, but only the Carnival zone soundtrack really bothers me.
I wouldn’t have recommended it at full price, but for 60% off, that’s a good deal.
Playing as Amy was enough for me to get Origins, but I’m also a freak.
origins plus goes for cheap these days, and in addition to amy, it’s got some cool unlockable art, and also oddities like tails’ metroidvania on game gear
i didn’t run into bugs myself (PS5), so the only real tradeoff was the music on sonic 3. definitely worth it, for me
**Ymmv on whether you consider certain additions to the classic-style games “improvements” or not. I personally agree with this channel on most things wrt 2D Sonic, but you might not!
