Stickers are a hot “new” thing in the mobile chat thread market. It’s in air quotes because I know they’re not new and you can use third party apps (I have gotten my $$ use out of Sticker Drop). But when iOS 17 came out, millions of people now realize you can pollute chat threads with custom stickers.
- find a picture and post it to the thread that you want to use as a sticker. The best pictures of stickers have well-defined borders and easily detectable foreground/backgrounds for the context selection to work. For example, here is a PC-FX for when you want to communicate “this reminds me of the NEC PC-FX” to your friends and family.
2. (iOS 17 users/iOS 16 with Sticker Drop) Save it to your camera roll. Long-press on the image and use the “copy subject” pop-up.
3a. iOS 17 will be prompted with a “add sticker” button. Click it and you’re basically done. You can add effects like a holo-foil and a puffy sticker. They are fun. Recommended.
3b. Or if you are using Sticker Drop, open up the app and hit that + button in upper left to add a new sticker and confirm the copy. You can change the color and border thickness. This is also fun. Recommended.
4. Communicate “PC-FX” to your friends and family.
~(I’m sure an android user will help me out and write instructions for their own OS.)
Update: proper use case is documented here in an actual chat:
And here’s the Cait Sith image I used for the above:
