this joke was about me confusing romance of the three kingdoms w journey to the west btw
Life doesnât always go the way we plan : (
A forum like from me means less than nothing irl
As if the market news wasnât bad enough already this week, now we get this dropped on us
A forum like from me means a lot, but I donât carry much water âround here.
âoh no officer, i might have confused two stories from mythology but i swear i did not romance a monkeyâ
I appreciate every like I receive from each and every one of you, but I especially want to single out ICâs Sokoban-enjoying hype squad @NoJoTo and @Bbtone for being fountains of encouragement over the years, emboldening me to keep posting even when my game might have been severely off.
genuinely, iâve never noticed your posting game being âoffâ
if anything, my posting game is more often off than not!
Well youâre on fire today!!
I like to like because I donât like to write.
Hitting the like button costs nothing, but to the right person it could mean everythingâŠâŠ my philosophyâŠâŠ
Never been more honoured by anything in my whole life.
this is what my likes mean
My most formative message board years were on Something Awful (2003 regdate ) and it doesnât have a like system so over the last couple years being around here Iâm still not entirely sure the purpose apart from like, expressing agreement. Over on SA if someone felt strongly enough but didnât have anything to add one just âempty quotesâ
yeah, i used to feel the same about likes. used to worry i was liking too much and it was stressing everyone out and ruining the forums.
Why would liking too much stress anyone out? Genuinely interested in this POV.
Iâve made it clear that I like smashing that like button, but itâs never pro-formaâŠ.i genuinely appreciate everyoneâs perspective.
it sends a notification, so itâs kind of like knocking on someoneâs door. i took, like, a year off of the forums because my notification number got too high and i couldnât face it.
i could easily believe itâs just a me thing.
Iâm totally with you on this! For like, the same reason. This is going to maybe sound insanely like, overthinking everything sort of train of thought here and I wouldnât begrudge anyone being like âgirl chill itâs just a like buttonâ but i have half a mind to trace the original sin of whatâs blossomed into the enshittification of the internet brought on by algo based social media at the feet of the like button
It doesnât do anything except make users optimize towards a certain type of thing that makes the number go up and fire their brain chemicals, and i think itâs harmful
not saying thatâs happening on ICâbut certainly on Reddit and most other online places. We optimize our behavior towards whatâs measured.
And before it was likes it was post counts on forums, but at least inflating oneâs post count required actually posting
there is definitely something to be said there. i donât think itâs overthinking, but i also donât know the solution to it.
FYI for everyone - you can turn notifications off for likes. i recommend!
