I donāt know that the Monochrome Echoes devs fulfilled their mission statement (āinstead of making another Quester sequel, letās repurpose the system for a game that non-freaks might be inclined to tryā) but I wish them luck.

I read the article with a ābenefit of the doubtā mindset, and overall this feels weird and kinda gross. These designers sound like I did when I was 15 years old trying to convince my parents to buy a PS2 because it can play DVDs. Iām genuinely curious, are they meant to be taken seriously or am I missing something?

Iām not familiar with this Betty Boop concept. My criticism may have to do with style and structure used by the articleās author (maybe this is meant to be sarcastic?) but if taken at face value I canāt shake a feeling that the designers are trying to sound profound and ultimately come across as slimy.
And its counterpart, the Olive Oyl principle.

I am pretty sure this is just a playful joke from Insert Creditās biggest fan of copyright lawyers @yeso ā The Betty Boop case is a landmark case for copyright law that just happens to be involving a curvy female character popular during the 1930s recession.
Hosoiās observation doesnāt hold up to thirty seconds of scrutiny (Japan has been in a recession for three decades, soā¦) and the conversation is just a more subtle āher ass is part of her characterā bit. But I have to respect the hustle of that insane byline by Automaton.
