@“Herb”#p57930 got it, thanks for checking seriously
Just off top here are co-op games that I have attempted with friends or am waiting for friends to play:
my partner and I love a good couch co-op. This winds up meaning a lot of beat em-ups and musou games. We like stuff with story, etc
**Age of Calamity (Hyrule Warriors)** - is fantastic. I mean. it chugs so hard, the switch, it is _trying_ but its genuinely an amazing story, all the characters feel really good, the flavor text from just even plug in items quests is charming. A joy. Some incredibly sincere moments and feels more like a Zelda game than a musou game. (Its predecessors Hyrule Warriors regular and Fire Emblem Warriors were good for just classic warriors gameplay but stories that were very "90s anime™" )
**Dynasty Warriors 9** - I bought this at Pink Gorilla in December and we sat on it till this month ccause we kept trying to get thru Samurai Warrior 5 and it... its bad. The rank you get for beating maps is frequently conflicting with itself wherein you basically need to be optimizing just for getting a 5k combo then rushing thru missions but there's just too many points where the story stops you from advancing so 5 dudes you've already killed can talk so you lose combo and the story is meh. BUT playing a game that came out 3-4 years prior, DYNSTAY WARRIORS 9, in 2022 is wild. We cannot believe this game is co-op. Its got a PS2 level of jank mixed with a massive open world like BOTW or Witcher3. Its bonkers, and a lot of fun. 2 people being able to insta teleport around and do story or other missions is great. It gets WEIRD where it sometimes leaves player 2 somewhere before a cut-scene starts so when the cut scene ends player 1 is across the map. But it scratches that itch of explore + grind + take points mental cookie satisfaction that has been a blast for the two of us. It is certainly not a "good" game but it is a FANTASTIC local co-op game. (also has online co-op)
**it takes two** - it should not have been VGA game of the year, but its got some of the best modern platforming/movement feel. The story is the weakest bit. Great couch co-op OR online co-op.
@“tapevulture”#p57884 idk about online but I tried playing splitscreen on one of the more recent Borderlands and it was so headache-inducing I never touched it again after about half an hour. Lots of minute visual info that game expects you to track on top of a generally ugly aesthetic; bad enough with half a screen, with a quarter-screen I can’t even imagine.
@“2501”#p58111 this is good intel, thank u. we would be doing four-player co-op but across two locations, so each person would get half a screen, but sounds like it would be problematic anyway. also i agree the aesthetic is gross. will avoid
@“Syzygy”#279 oh man should we just play XIV……would it be “all Greek” to my sister who has basically only played Breath of the Wild
@“Syzygy”#p58203 thank you for this, definitely want to check out XIV at some point but I realized we don't even have enough machines to play it together since split screen is (obviously) not an option.
Will check out Crystal Chronicles...I hadn't considered games with cross-platform play. And will give Diablo III a shot the next time it goes on sale and play Overcooked in the meantime. Or maybe Don't Starve but I can't tell if it can do a combination of local and online co-op or not
>!
@"MovingCastles"#1552 Thought I'd point out this thread if you're looking for some co-op!
My personal favorite co-op game is Spelunky... and Spelunky 2 is even more Spelunky! If you haven't played them before, they're hard action platformers, but it's slightly easier with a friend. Expect to die a lot but have funny moments come up along the way.
Stardew Valley's local multiplayer is great and super accessible to all skill levels. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is great to play local or online co-op. It's a big long honkin' Western RPG that can be played through all 100+ hours with a friend. Though if you're like me, you'll get like 6 hours in and then your schedules will never sync up again.
Monster Hunter doesn't have couch co-op but if you want an online co-op game, it can be fun to take down the monsters together. It's one that I don't fully get the appeal - but have enough friends who love it that I'm comfortable recommending it.
@“Tradegood”#p124486 those are really good suggestions. I wish I could play Stardew Valley but she has really particularly taste lol.
She did enjoy Sperlunky - so I'll scope out the thread for some arcadey stuff. Thanks Tradegood!
