the long-awaited(???) insert credit manga thread

I need a bit of advice from the lovely people who peruse both manga and this topic.

My son who is six has just discovered Dragon Ball in the library, so we decided to let him bring a volume home and he hasn’t put it down for two days straight. He’s reading it over and over and is now asking questions about others he can read, not just Dragon Ball but other series. Now my wife and I know pretty much nothing for manga for children as both got into it as adults, so really I’m asking: Is there anything that people can recommend for younger children as an introduction into manga?

We’ve ordered the first five volumes of Dragon Ball for him so he’s got a bit to start with, and now we can already feel it’ll last him a week before he wants more! So anything you can recommend is appreciated.

Apologies to single you out @chazumaru on this, but I believe you could give probably the best answer for this question. We’ve got Dragon Ball in French, so he can relate to his friends at school because of differences in character names and possible story beats (My wife grew up watching it and has never seen it in English - she’s still a bit in shock about the different names, but that’s another story). Are there any other that you’re aware of where the character names and stories are different in translations outside of Japan at all please?
