The Monster Hunter Thread... ~SO TASTY!!~

that is with framegen on, it says it in the image in green under “average”

so yes, I know that means it is really native 35-ish. I spent years playing things like Destiny on ps4 at 30fps. I played Rise on the switch. I can cope with this well enough I reckon

still not sure about the price

could always play it at 1440. Years later and I’m still not convinced 4K is real (maybe I need my eyes checked)

DLSS kinda does that in effect… my screen is 4K so running at a lower res always looks muddy and awful. DLSS lets the game basically render at 1440 and then magic[1] it back to 4K

  1. not magic at all, but still pretty cool ↩︎

Lol, reading is hard.

As to the 1440p, it might already be close to that before upscaling with DLSS. Still a good idea though. Only caveat is that a lower resolution will mean the CPU is trying to deliver information to the GPU more often and it’s probably CPU bound already.

And yeah, I also played Rise on Switch. Hell I played Freedom 2 on PSP using the trusty claw technique.

If this PC were purely a dedicated gaming device, I’d probably have gone for a 1440p OLED instead of this 4K LCD. The extra space is super noticeable doing things like side-by-side windows, or inside programs like Davinci Resolve.

Can confirm 1440p OLED rules and you don’t need a crazy GPU to run games on it like 4k. OLED isn’t so great at text however but I do coding and writing on it fine enough. My old 1440p LCD is for reference and Youtube now.

Pissing me off that the only response I can muster to all the above is “well I guess I should get a PlayStation 5 Pro” I’m such a rube …

Tried the benchmark on my ROG Ally + external 3080 GPU:

Good.

That almost sounds reasonable if they weren’t a thousand dollars :frowning:

I also lost my job a few weeks ago too so I’m just being stupid

But what if I get another job soon…? If I do, I deserve a little treat for getting another job… I’d also of course soften the blow by trading in my PS5…

Well hey, broke people are allowed to have fun too!

Wilds is only going to get better with time. World was the first HD entry and severly lacking in content. Wilds will get more as time goes on, I’m sure. Then there’ll be a dlc.

If you already have something that can play at ~50fps I’d say that’s fine. Especially as it says you ran the test on “Ultra”. A couple of small tweaks down to High and you’re probably at 60 easily.

I’m buying this game because it’s key to my gaming resolution of playing games with friends instead of just always playing solo.

The only MH I’ve ever played was World, and while it was really fun, I felt like I had missed the boat on playing along with everyone else so I fell off after a couple dozen hours. My hope is that with the zeitgeist of a new video game launch that I can play with my friends and my brother online, I will fulfill my destiny and become a Monster Hunter Guy.

The only weapon I’ve ever used much in the series is Dual Blades. Not sure if I should run it back or try something new. Shooting a huge gun is pretty cool…

eh… I’m such a console baby that I simply don’t trust it… I saw one dip down to like 15fps and I was turned off. Already bought the game on PSN even.

It would be nice to have a big fat gamer rig and migrate more fully to PC gaming in general but today is not the day.

One thing that is cool about Monster Hunter in this regard is that trying out new weapons and getting a good sense of how they’ll play is pretty easy. There will be some kind of training mode somewhere that will let you easily swap weapons to try out all the movesets and mechanics, and certainly in the early or mid game it’s also pretty easy to just craft something reasonably powerful to bring on a hunt and just try it out.

I recommend trying out new weapon types on hunts you feel familiar with, it feels a lot more engaging to be able to focus on learning the weapon than learning the weapon and the monster at the same time.

Every weapon is so viable that I suggest just hanging out in the training grounds for a while trying each one. Unless you’re mega try hard, nothing is inherently better.

I started the series maining dual blade, then switched to charge blade when that was introduced, then longsword in Rise because it’s anime as heck. Still not sure what I’ll do in Wilds.

I really love that about the series. Wilds is neat in that you cal bring two weapons on a hunt. I tried a bunch of weapons in the beta and if I struggled too much I’d just switch mid fight.

I will say it’s both the best and worst time to build a PC. Intel has failed to compete with their new CPUs but AMD is killing it and prices aren’t too crazy for theirs. Other components are also reasonable enough. The elephant is GPUs and how Nvidia fumbled the launch of their new cards this month while charging absolutely unbelievable prices. AMD is busy deciding which foot to shoot first when they finally announce their new line next week. Supply is totally screwy too.

That’s kinda inside baseball on the pc building hobby, but you’d be spending roughly $1000 just for a midrange GPU with how well Wilds seems to run. Guess we’ll find out with the day one patch tonight.

If you know all that already, ignore me. I just like talking about pc building haha.

Still unsure if I’m jumping in on day one, but talk of weapons compels me to mention that when I do start Wilds I’ll once again be starting with my trusty Horn.

DOOT!

(to be followed by the charge blade and the dual blades)

Kinda surprised to see so much light bowgun rep – I always did dual blades (I dabbled on Tri for Wii and first got deep on Wii U – still the best way to play old-school MonHun) but switched over to light bowgun on Rise, mostly because the gyro aiming on Switch felt excellent. Something about the impressions, the lack of gyro and that fact that I’d be playing on a Series S is cooling me off on Wilds after thinking it’d be a sure bet for me this year, but it could also be me just not feeling a super in-depth/fiddly game at the moment. Anyone have any feelings on the analog stick aiming in Wilds yet?
