@“treefroggy”#p113089 wish hori made one for the right side too!

Ever since you put this idea in my head I've been sad it's never happened lol. I gotta have my membranes!!!

@“connrrr”#p113417 you're just “insane for the mebrane” :j

tim was saying on twitch that the 8bitdo ultimate d-pad has the same weird input problems as the switch pro pad. but it has back buttons and fancy sticks so a better value game pad than nintendo's pro? i guess?

I'm not a Switch-owner, but this looks useful.

@“hellomrkearns”#p114071 these are upthread as well I believe - these are the same sticks that come in the kingkong2 that I bought, and they have not failed me yet

I am no longer an 8bitdo pro 2 Stan. I realized the reason I love Gamecube and Dreamcast controllers is the offset stick layout, and after recent wrist injuries, I realized for new AAA 3D games, smash bros, or anything with analog control that isn‘t a ps1/ps2 game, I prefer it.

So I’m going to get something like the King Kong 2 or 8bitdo Ultimate.

I still like the pro 2, especially for RPGs like Dragon Quest. But I also have the SN30 pro, which I realized I like even more, even though it's not as customizable. I may even use offset joysticks for Souls games, pretty crazy I know.

I don't think there's a perfect one for me, I would try an xbox elite controller if it had gyro, which I believe is *the future* and I totally don't wanna do without for aiming.

there is no correct answer and everything sucks equally.

@“treefroggy”#p117314 there is no correct answer and everything sucks equally.

this was the impetus behind this thread and has remained true the whole damn time lmao

Yes… there is no one ultimate controller. Instead you must own several controllers.

Right now I am playing Links Awakening Remake with a Saturn Pad and it makes more sense than anything else

This was announced during Summer Games Fest.

Also a bunch of pastel Joy-Con controllers are coming at the end of this month. I know, I know, they’re the surely Lucy won’t pull away the football this time of controllers. But they’re damn cute.

@“◉◉maru”#p119184 finally, an interesting use of the switch joycon format!

built for speed

this could potentially allow the switch to run at docked clockspeeds in portable mode

The best Dragon Quest anything released this week!

OK gotta read through this thread again because right now it‘s not even a question of finding a switch controller that I like, but one that just works at all. Joycons found a new way to stop working now, it’s not drift but the ZL button just won‘t work. 8Bitdo Pro+ refuses to connect. Pairing controllers with this system has never been easy I wonder if there’s a problem with the system itself.

@“thebryanjzx90”#p144778 It’s more of an “anything goes” proposal than a truly helpful advice but have you tried updating the firmware of your controllers? You can do so via the system settings (accessible entirely with the touch screen).

@"◉◉maru"#p142658 A couple weeks in: very, very happy about this purchase so far. And these sell well enough that [they even have their dedicated cases](https://www.tomtoc.com/products/fancycase-a05-ns-hori-split-pad-compact-case) nowadays.

For Christmas, my wife bought the Nyxi Hyperion big boy joy con replacements and I like them quite a bit. I‘m a big fan of the Hori D-Pad controller and it’s nice to have that functionality but everything‘s full size. I just beat Super Mario Odyssey again and it was much easier and more comfortable than doing it with the standard size joycons. I also beat Pokemon TCG on the Game Boy app and I don’t think I got any false direction presses with the D-Pad.

There's some stuff I don't like, the build feels a little cheap, particularly the tops of the analog sticks feel real plasticky, the rumble isn't very pleasant and I keep having to turn off the LED lights, which I would rather not have at all. They also make the Switch real huge.

Overall, I was concerned they'd feel bad or silly but it's pretty nice and my aging hands aren't getting cramped up anymore.

once it seemed clear they were never gonna do this, I‘ve been saying the whole time that this is such a sad squandered opportunity. At least the NSO NES/FC controllers are cool. It would take a lot of engineering though. We’re lucky they are still producing(?) oem gamecube controllers and classic replicas.

@treefroggy For RE4, the left con oughta to be waggle combat knife.

Could have been more of a curse than a blessing. Probably for the best they didn’t produce tons of dumb cons. Still feels like a squandered opportunity.

@chazumaru I keep thinking about them ever since my eyes laid upon them. how am I supposed to be happy without them

Well I treated myself to these two lil buddies, because my beloved Pro Controller just doesn't have a very good d-pad, and I've only wanted to play old stuff on my Switch lately.

Both of these feel absolutely fantastic to hold. The build quality to price ratio is kind of unbelievable.

The M30 is primarily for 2D fighting games, and it performs really nicely. I found it interesting that if you go into the Switch's input test, the d-pad doesn't register! So I guess the M30 d-pad is considered to be an analog stick. Whatever! It's got just the right amount of mushiness while still feeling perfectly precise. Tried it with Dragon Ball FighterZ and Pocket Rumble.

The SN30 is for platformers and old-timey JRPGs, and it sits so nicely in my hands. The concave shoulder buttons are a wonderful touch. Its d-pad is stiff and a little bit clicky, and I like it very much. Strangely, though, there seems to be a tiiiiiny bit of input lag on the SN30, which is weird because I didn't detect any at all on the M30. But the SN30 is the one that's "officially" compatible with the Switch, while the M30 "isn't"!

Also, Super Mario Wonder feels really bad and weird with a proper d-pad! That game was definitely designed with the thumbstick in mind. On the other hand, the SN30 d-pad felt real good with Celeste, Spelunky 2, and Sea of Stars.

Anyway, since the Switch is the only (non-(3)DS) console that I own, I now feel like I'm set up nicely for any game I might ever want to play, with these and my Pro Controller. It's a nice, luxurious feeling.
