@“JXUA”#p105434 seeing this as someone who plays tetris on a keyboard on a daily basis and also has just started to play tgm 3 on an arcade stick created a necessity to try this and a “what if i can play better with that setup?” hole in my brain
I‘m a sap for the Playstation format analog controller, this much is true. There are times while playing modern games I ask myself, “Would I enjoy a controller where the analog stick is high up like Saturn3D, Dreamcast, GCN, Xbox, Switch Pro Controller?” Yes very possibly. And yet, instead of purchasing one like that for my PC/Switch, here I am dropping another fifty dollars plus for another new 8bitdo controller. It’s resemblance to the wii classic controller is a plus… Also it has rumble, in a snes-style controller? Neato. Also it has binary L2 and R2 keys, which is preferred for 9/10 games I play.
What sold me was this, the prospect of Death Stranding-ing the controller with a climbing clip.
I'm such a tool for 8bitdo at this point that I'm going to e-mail the company asking how I can acquire more of these specific rubber nubs without purchasing a whole 8bitdo pro 2 (which they are bundled with). I want a pair not only for my new sn30 pro but also for my joycons. I haven't found any I like as much as these on amazon or aliexpress.

Anyone here have rubber nubs suggestions, or any marketplace besides 'zon and aliexpress that sell better ones?
@“treefroggy”#p111055 Oh man, the clippy case is so good.
I like the NSO SNES pad but I wish the Z buttons functioned for capture and home in the GB and NES apps the way they do for the SNES one. It‘s so silly that they don’t work that way for the GB app especially—just give it a Super Game Boy skin when I'm using it!!
I should‘ve mentioned I bought a Gulikit KingKong 2 pro controller for switch and it totally works. It works still, to this day, several months after I bought it. The only issue is all the face buttons make a squeaky sound. but it turns on the switch, the buttons all feel fine, it’s got a good texture and weight, and yeah, it 100% functions. that‘s the main thing. only weird downside is the + - and share/home buttons are reversed in height of where I’d expect so I‘m often hitting screenshot/home when I want to bring up a menu or pause. but I’m getting used to it. Otherwise, very good squeaky controller. best I can get so far.
I got it today, I was so excited. It’s super lightweight, it would have been a great candidate for a loop like every Nintendo portable device has for a Japanese style phone strap, which I do enjoy using. I may mod this controller by drilling my own phone strap loop haha.
I will admit this is a rare occasion of me splurging and buying something kind of redundant, not for pragmatic reasons, because I think it's cool. This thing doesn't work with 8bitdo remapper software, and doesn't have motion controls... It's just really cute 🥺 I think it will be good for Dragon Quest XI and other RPGs and lil switch games.
Edit: tried it with DQ11, super Mario maker 2, Mario kart 8, and yeah, it feels so right. Especially for Metroid Dread, too. I wish it worked with remap software so I could swap the stick and d-pad and play links awakening that way.
Edit2: Been playing FFVIIR all evening with this controller, feels awesome. the rumble feels cool coming from a snes-style pad imho.
Someday I'll probably get a switch pro / xbox style controller with the higher joystick, like the guilkit king kong 2, but it can wait.. haha.
Has anyone tried replacing the sticks in their ailing joycons with the hall effect replacements Gulikit make? I haven‘t gotten the drift yet, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared I say.
@“connrrr”#p111262 I have tried them in the gulikit controller and they work great. As someone whose every other switch controller has drifted, I think they're probably pretty good.
Dang these look like something I would try. I have a drifting left joycon that I replaced with a Hori one — which is fine connected but it cannot do wireless.
update: I just ordered a set, so I'll let you know later this month. They were $45aud here, which is low enough to be worth a shot.
@“exodus”#p111300 it's just the face buttons that squeak, not the sticks?
I got myself a pair of Gengar themed Hori Compact Split Pad joy-cons. . . and the right trigger is already spotty. Hori quality build never fails to surprise me! at least they're comfy

Edit : which I realised was just talked about! what do you know
Didn‘t realize until getting this sn30 that the analog triggers on controllers like pro 2 are pretty annoying when 99% of games I play don’t use them. The only game I‘ve played that uses analog triggers is Death Stranding. GTAV driving controls feel real nice with them so I’m glad I have them, but I have played GTAV a grand total of like 5 hours maybe haha.
May be unwanted advice but I have cleaned every joycon I've had that drifts and it has been a permanent, one time solution for me!
@rejj I just ordered one of those batteryless hori left joycons because I thought it was cool. Again, frivolous controller spending this month haha.
I like the Hori D-pad joycon but it doesn‘t end up flush with the rest of the Switch along the bottom when fully railed into place and this hasn’t stopped bothering me since I noticed it.
@“connrrr”#p113023 was gonna write a bit about the hori d-pad, but everyone and their timothy rogers made video reviews when it came out four years ago. I like it. Nintendo has really slept on first party joycon promises. they left it entirely up to third parties. typical peripheral situation. anyways the d-pad is great and I actually love the fact it has no battery. wish hori made one for the right side too!
@“connrrr”#p111310 oops yes, just the face buttons.
@“treefroggy”#p113089 yeah, it‘s good! It’s Hori, why wouldn‘t it be?? It would be nice if it still had rumble, but that’s force feedback for you: always first on the chopping block.
Also yeah, I was thinking if anythink it's looked out of place opposite my stock white joycon, but also: I like the membraneness of the buttons and D-pad so much I would absolutely welcome that feeling on the right side also.
@“connrrr”#p113096 I love the default launch gray joycons, and seeing that they are so expensive to buy standalone now is really weird, but validating. the hori I got is clear black, which is my favorite, and the zelda stuff on it isn't totally offensive, but I could do without it. I think the clear black would look great opposite a white one.
@“treefroggy”#p113107 it doesn’t look bad exactly. I think gilded with that Zelda iconography on only one of them makes it look lopsided.
@“connrrr”#p113110 I thought about removing the Zelda screen print various ways, but I believe I will just learn to love it by dealing with what I have. That’s how it goes. It becomes yours after a while. Your special lopsided doggy.
As someone with chronic dry hands (lotions ain't doing crap for me!) that Hori dpad is too slippery for me. I also take -5 hit on dexterity when dpad is below stick…
