@“chazumaru”#p88106 that gengar set is reaaaaal good, wow!!
@“treefroggy”#p88080 I went with it because I think it looks better and I have more medium sized hands so I felt like a not quite as large offering would be better.
I've been playing around with mine for a bit and I like it! I alleviates some of the discomfort of holding the Switch OLED that I was running into. Honestly though, I think no matter what the Switch just isn't that pleasant a thing to hold.
@“treefroggy”#p88080 I never had a Split Pad Pro, but I wouldn‘t be surprised if the Compact used the same sticks and buttons. I’d always been curious about the Pro, but the Compact is what got me to bite because I prefer the size (not a fan of an ultra-wide portable console) and I really like that white/yellow colorway, especially with my white Switch dock
Here‘s a bit of PSA, it turns out 8bitdo Ultimate bluetooth/2.4g version and 2.4g only version are pretty different. I almost bought the wrong one but ended up not buying any because both have gotchas that I can’t live with.
$70 bluetooth/2.4g version has hall effect sensor sticks, gyro, bigger battery, works with Switch/Win/android via 2.4g dongle but bluetooth only works in dinput mode, not xinput. This is deal breaker for me because support for dinput it much more limited.
$50 2.4g version _**DOES NOT**_ work with Switch even with dongle, **_NO_** hall effect senor sticks, NO gyro, smaller battery, can toggle between dinput and xinput.
Both are step back from Pro 2 in many ways I think especially the 2.4g version.

I bought the Bluetooth version hoping I could also use it as a 2.4g MiSTer controller since there aren‘t a lot of 2.4g options for that outside of the 8bitdo M30 genesis one. But apparently the Bluetooth model doesn’t work in 2.4g with MiSTer! You have to buy the 2.4g-only model and toggle it to dinput. What!!!
@“GigaSlime”#p97933 Wow they really bungled this one. What a confusing mess.
i didn‘t want to put this in the hyper gunsport thread because it’s an 8bitdo pro2 thing more than it is a gunsport thing but
this pad does not give you very much feedback on the reload vibration! i‘m suspecting it doesn’t have very good “hd” rumble in general, but it is much too subtle on that particular, important feedback point than the standard joycons in handheld mode.
i might look at the computer app to see if it can be made into “sd” rumble instead.
If you’re into the weird Gamecube layout, you pervert you, I only see raving reviews for the NYXI Wizard which is already out of stock a few days after its release.

Thinking about switch accessories again, but also very happy to maintain my minimalist setup. My hands are huge and long and now 30 years old which is making me want to add wing-grip to all of my portable gaming devices, lol. and I‘m still using the original joycons, haha. I fixed my own drift before. Now they’re just creaky and old, and I never wanna use that dumb buttonous-d-pad ever again.
@"chazumaru"#p100568 about time someone finally did this.
Bit dismayed to hear the quirks of the 8bitdo ultimate controller, I was definitely eyeing it off as an upgrade for my old v1 pro controller. Anyone know much about the Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro? I understand they‘re actually the manufacturer of the ’no more drift!!1' hall effect sensor joysticks used in the 8bitdo ultimate.
Regarding the talk about the switch controllers on the show. @“exodus”#3 have you considered not using a switch controller at all and using one of these?
I can't fully recommended it since I don't own it but recently someone brought their switch with it to my house and playing with a PS4 controller worked pretty well and now I'm considering getting one.
I splurged and ordered the clear black 8bitdo Pro 2, and now it's lost in the mail! rip
Let me tell you something about my lil rubber nubs
These lil rubber nubs, I‘ve been seeing them a lot since the nintendo switch came out, but never even so much as touched a pair of rubber nubs myself.
Lemme tell ya, after using these ones that came with my clear 8bitdo, they complete the controller. It’s all that was missing. Now it feels that much more like a playstation controller, with the big fat thumbsticks, only better. It feels much more precise and, idunno the words (just woke up), but much easier to use overall.
I like them so much that I ordered a pair for Nintendo Switch joycons as well. Why the joysticks this generation are bald and require caps to feel normal, idunno, I think every controller should come with these, they probably cost two cents to produce.
I also, in a major way, find them preferable to the old ways because it makes me worry less about grinding down the texture off a vintage controller like gamecube thumb sticks.
Anyways, sorry y'alls but I'm now even more obsessed with this controller now that I have a clear black one.
A major downside is that it's really tough to take this controller apart. I gave up after getting most of the way there, it feels like it could be very easy to break, and I kind of went through a journey just to get this controller (first order was lost in the mail, and I had to pick it up from the UPS store)
Why would I try to take it apart? well since the controller is clear, the light piping is totally irrelevant, so I wanted to customize my controlling by shoving some [dimming sheets](https://www.amazon.com/Dim-It-Light-Dimming-Sheets/dp/B006R0VWSG) up in there inside the shell, strategically. I use the turbo function a lot and the subtle effect from the home key is now three bright, eye-searing lights. This may look cool to most people but I think it's cool to customize too.
Anyways I can't get enough of this controller and am using it feverishly to play everything.
man is anyone else at the point where they just want to give up on buying third-party controllers?? being a pro gamer i naturally wanted something more ergonomic and also with a retro feel (im also old skool), but pairing the mf 8bitdo with any new switch is always a huge hassle. and recently i co-oped hyrule warriors with my kid and we ended up just turning all vibration off because the 8bitdo vibrated constantly. like literally no breaks just a constant rumble oscillating between like 50% power and full blast with the controller on the verge of levitating.
i get pairing issues with the 8bitdo retro pads that were made specifically for xbox and they're literally wired. having done enough tinkering for one lifetime i think i'm a first-party lad going forward
@“tapevulture”#p105344 Every time I switch between custom firmware and the standard operating environment on my switch, I have to re-pair the controller. It‘s inconvenient, sure, but, idk I haven’t had problems with rumble, it aint haptics but it's comfy.
Maybe try updating the firmware! Sounds like you may be too busy to mess around and just want it to work though, which is understandable, yeah the Apple route of only buying OEM nintendo stuff that just works is the way.
Xbox is the weird console, it has specific requirements of all other platforms and so it requires controllers specifically made for it. As in, it's easy to find a controller that will work on pc, switch, playstation, mac, mobile, but for xbox you will use a controller that only works on xbox and maybe pc or one other device.
I'll admit I have more time to mess around, but with the newest 8bitdo pro 2, updated firmware, the thing works great and I have no complaints, except that it's so new that the plastic hasn't work down and the d-pad squeaks a little bit.
@“treefroggy”#p105348 yeah i did update the firmware, unpaired and re-paired etc, but same issue. im sure there's a fix out there somewhere
@“tapevulture”#p105397 I’ll let you know when I play hyrule warriorz
I‘ve had a murderous head cold for the past 72 hours and have been compelled by a mixture of brain fog and Dayquil fog to bust out my 8bitdo Arcade Stick with the ODIN V2 Drop-in Fightpad (which appears to be sold out at the moment unfortunately) and to play some Tetris 99 and Switch Online Game Boy and it’s been very nice.

I originally bought this thing so I could lay my wrist flat to press buttons in jrpgs or similar, mild-mannered low impact menu-y games. I was working as an illustrator fulltime back in ‘21 or so and I was bad about my RSI. I’m not a big fighting game guy but for basically any 2d experience this thing feels so luxurious in it's lap-weight and clickiness.
@“JXUA”#p105434 Nice, that is one of two modern arcade sticks I was looking at getting.
Not technically a controller itself but an essential aid I’m finding: I got the Skull & Co NeoGrip for the OLED Switch. This model is bigger and I’ve found it extremely uncomfortable to hold, it makes the already bad Joy Cons feel even worse as well. Bad on the wrists! There are tons of grips available for the Switch but this one is unique in that it comes with three different grip styles you can slip on and off depending on what you need. You can see in the pic I’m using offset grips because the left hand one is good for positioning your hands on the control stick while the right grip is better for positioning your hands higher up on the buttons. It feels really good! Totally makes everything about playing the console feel much better. Wrists don’t feel stressed, fingers aren’t splayed out on the back trying to find a hold. For $20 highly recommend.
