I said Persona bc I can actually vouch for it but I am planning on playing Unicorn Overlord soon-ish (working through this list) so it’d be cool to have someone to chat with about ti
Our lists line up like 75% ahaha. Just need a 2-4 weeks heads up before starting. I’m slow lol.
voted Triangle Strategy because you will be supporting Artdink
Voted Triangle Strategy because I loved the spin on tactical combat, plus voting on decisions by committee.
Picked Unicorn Overlord in part because I was expecting it to be the underdog pick, and also because I’ve been thinking of it since I shelved it last year. It’s great!
Picked Unicorn Overlord cause I like saying Unicorn Overlord
I hesitated back and forth between Triangle Strategy and Unicorn Overlord so I’d recommend either of them, really. They shine in different areas so it depends what you care about. Unicorn has a more unique game system (but it gets too easy midway through in the normal difficulty setting) and deeper unit customization. Triangle has more interesting characters, route choices and overall plot. Unicorn feels more like a Sega Saturn or N64 kinda game. Triangle feels more like a Super Famicom or PlayStation kinda game.
I voted Triangle Strategy but I might be open to changing my vote if you come and speak with me first.
I counted out something like 20 games that I put a substantial (10+ hours) amount of time into and enjoyed but did not finish because something I was really looking forward to came along. I’m going to use a number generator to pick three of them and then you all could maybe tell me what to finish up
This reminds me that I want to finish ghostwire: tokyo.
I ALSO want to finish Ghostwire Tokyo! I had such a fun time running around doing Doctor Strange magic on weirdos
So you can tell us about it.
i remember you talking about it a year or so ago!
it’s in a weird lane of being like just barely more than the sum of its parts, i love it
the magic feels so good. like i know it’s basically just an fps but the gun looks like your hands, but it really feels excellent.
also very? chill? and vibes?
it was a really hot summer when i was playing it and i very much associate it with hiding out from the heat in my dark cold basement.
I started Final Fantasy X-2 yesterday and I can tell I’m hooked — I think I played through a decent portion of Chapter 1 (about 4-5 hours).
Final Fantasy is a series I’ve always been curious about, but various attempts at some recommended entry points (FFVII, FFVIIR, FFIV) have never quite stuck. I’m not sure if its the chaotic battle system or the rich aesthetics of the world, but seeing some of Spira, these are places I’m very happy to explore and hang out in, especially as Summer arrives.
Digging into the story of X a bit online to get some context now has me wondering if skipping straight to X-2 is going to be a somewhat surface level experience. I understand X-2 portrays a world grappling with a newfound sense of freedom in the power vacuum created by the events of X and that is very interesting to me, but I’m wondering if I’ll be able to appreciate it enough without the specifics of context/attachments of the world prior.
On the flipside, I’m wondering if playing X in service of X-2 will feel like eating my vegetables while I just want to get back to the thing I was enjoying. Though, cracking the vault of a previously unseen Final Fantasy thread on here last night, I see a lot of love for X and its story which makes me more curious and open to it.
As a huge fan of FFX, I’m also a huge fan of keeping your momentum going. If this feels like your best chance yet to break into Final Fantasy, I say let it ride. Maybe you can then decide how you feel about playing X as a prequel down the road
If you can accept that some of the references, conversations and jokes are going to be a bit lost on you, you’re still gonna have a great time with it.
They’re very different games, especially the battle system with jobs/dresses. But I think X-2 will explain everything that happens well enough for you to carry on and enjoy it.
"If you’re enjoying FFX-2 on its own, just stick with that.
And then [if you want more,] FFX,
a game I still have not played despite promising to do so publicly on these forums for years now, and which I am once again inspired to do following @connrrr’s recent post"
