Thread for early internet-style posts that are just context-free quotes

Remember back when you used to use AIM, or maybe when Facebook was brand-new, and you could write a simple little post, or an away message, and it would just be a random song lyric or line of poetry that you were vibing with at the time?

I've always wanted to bring that back, and I'm curious to see if anyone else wants to join in. So.

the other day i was talking to a friend who has a younger sister in highschool and they were telling me how the kids use a “instagram notes” (thought bubbles on top of instagram messenger) and the nonsesne that goes on there and it reminded me a lot of away messages and that kinda stuff. apparently kids will just post random lyircs, random emojis or indirect messages to specific people for flirting/drama and such. it kinda gave me that vibe

neither here nor there but when i was in 9th grade this quiet and shy girl offered to make me an iron maiden themed layout for my livejournal. was not until years later that i realized she probably had a schoolyard crush on me.

break down and cease all feeling

burn now what once was breathing

reach out and take my heart away

I was a bit late to the MSN party, and found this grating from the getgo (I mean I'm over it now obviously but I just had to be a little iconoclast in my youth). So my MSN nametag was always just “Jay” or sometimes “-Jay-”

@“whatsarobot”#p158701 Recently I‘ve been trying to bring this back by using song lyrics for my Discord status. You don’t have as much character real estate as an AIM status, but it still gives me a similar sort of satisfaction

@“phylaxis”#p158894 Oh man this one hit me in the nostalgia zone.

also everything on this archive of livejournal mood icons

@“phylaxis”#p158894 ICQ is still the platform I miss the most ;;

@“phylaxis”#p158896 holy shit
