One of my primary jobs at the pier is to go underneath, behind locked gate into the heart of the pier, to run enormous and dangerous high current high voltage power cables for events. It’s kind of a Silent Hill industrial dingy environment down there with lots of dangerous power units and stuff. There’s no photos of it since it’s a highly restricted area only employees and savvy campers venture into. The photo I attached is as deep as you can see without trespassing while the main gate happens to be open. Towards the back is much darker and dirter. This photo is the cleanest I’ve ever seen this area. I have photos of my own but would have to dig a bit, plus posting them is probably ill-advised.
I used to have a commute where I’d drive down a big steep hill in the woods alone, and I must have been playing Donkey Kong Country because I’d mentally refer to it as Barrel Cannon Canyon.
For me I definitely remember feeling the Twoson music after returning to my home towns after going away to college. It has the melancholy feeling that I’ve grown yet this place will not grow with me, so I can never truly return or feel like this is my home any more. As someone who has moved around a lot, I kind of identify different parts of earthbound with different places I’ve lived in my life but maybe that’s a topic for another day.
But in terms of just in walkin’ around, so many songs from Ys fall into that category. This is the song playing in my head as I do my errands like pick up my potions and visit the fortune teller.
In early high school, my way to cope with the awkwardness of navigating between classes was to imagine the Skies of Arcadia world travel music and pretend to be the Delphinus.
Otherwise, one of the songs I return to a lot is Robo’s Theme from Chrono Trigger, like if I have to figure out a projector system at work or something. If it’s a bad day, that theme becomes the main theme for Shin Megami Tensei IV.
The most common for me, I think, is some iteration of the og Animal Crossing theme that played out in a variety of different styles throughout the hourly music changes, particularly when I’m feeling tired after a long, satisfying day.
imagine playing Barrel Cannon Canyon while barreling down a canyon. Cause I did that once only I was playing 1080 snowboarding. Should have been Barrel Cannon Canyon.
So not quite TV game music, but wanting to read part 3 of Kaiji is the reason I got into mahjong IRL, and when I’m playing ranked meets IRL and get butterflies, these two tracks from the Kaiji anime play in my head:
I even do the Kaiji narrator style voice in my head when someone throws down a safe tile, for example. “HeavenlyHalberd sees it! A guaranteed safe path forward!”
And if you’re wondering why Akagi tracks don’t play in my head, I have yet to see it.
