Another excellent episode of Splash Wave on the Wonder Boy series.

Not really a “video essay” as much as just some reporting, but I thought it was interesting. PMG generally do decent work, I‘ve found. At least, from what I’ve seen. I haven't gone diving deep in to the back catalogue.

I‘m coming to this thread massively late so I could be double-posting a few of these, but I’m a big fan of the following channels:

[Bransfield](https://www.youtube.com/c/Bransfield2000)
[EmceeProphit](https://www.youtube.com/user/EmceeProphIt)
[Jenny Geist](https://www.youtube.com/c/JennyGeistVids)
[ThorHighHeels](https://www.youtube.com/c/thorhighheels)
[Writing on Games](https://www.youtube.com/c/WritingOnGames)

I also tried my hand at making a series of videos about weird Tetris-alikes back during the first lock down, but I ran out of steam after a fistful of episodes. Some I was quite proud of though:

So this guy has been doing editorial videos for a decade now, and I'm linking his 10th anniversary episode, where he kind of reviews his own performance.

His show is good! Worth checking out, reviews a lot of indie games. Very thoughtful.

@“Syzygy”#p72125 STEAK!!!

betrayed once again by youtube subscription notifications

@“connrrr”#p72229 This is beautiful.

The King returns!

assume those interested already know, but I haven't seen this posted yet

after these long videos I'm beginning to worry I'll start saying "attributes" the verb way in place of the noun way

@“rejj”#p70624 (I replied to the wrong post, oops) I'm more interested in VR Chat now.

I used to be more adventurous in checking out chatrooms but then I stopped for some reason and I don't know even how to get anything out of discord. I know like one person I talk to there.

@“rejj”#p70624 Also, for anyone interested in boardgames, Quinns does great ones over at Shut Up and Sit Down.

A passionate defense of Castlevania on the Nintendo 64. Very insertcredit-y in its critical approach (not just for the “everyone is wrong” part).

And, as recommended at the end of the essay above, one can follow-up with the annual 「Panzer Dragoon Saga is the best RPG no one has ever played」critical piece; this one is pretty exhaustive and extends beyond to a larger discussion on game preservation. Honestly, I find the author pretty pessimistic and dramatic about the official re-release of the game when I see the kind of obscure stuff getting a new chance these days; I am pretty sure Azel will get a second commercial chance sometimes soon. (The ending about Sony wilfully preventing people from playing Metal Gear Solid etc. as some sort of evil corporate conspiracy is downright dumb but whatever.)

I love animation. I'll generally watch anything animated, regardless of country of origin. From Hertzfeldt to Miyazaki, Zagreb Films to Disney. In this offering, kaptainkristian goes into the 12 principles of animation that are in the book The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation (which is a great book if you are studying up on animation/doing animation/have a passing interest in animation).

This video poses some interesting questions about structures that are prevalent in and work well in other mediums, but not found often in video games - makes me wonder if the Insert Credit Collective can think of any other games that accurately fit the “heist” criteria he‘s laying out here? I know I’d be interested in playing games like this

@“chazumaru”#p76745 This is one of the best videos I've watched in a long time. Thanks for sharing.
