I like to collect NES controllers and peripherals because a bunch of them are super zany and toy-like choosing form over function in a lot of cases which I think is silly and fun. This Dominator ProBeam light gun actually is nice in both form AND function which surprised me.
It took me a minute to get working, as I didn't have a manual and had trouble finding an image of it online. Eventually I ended up looking at Ebay listings of CIB ProBeams and managed to get lucky finding one with photos of the manual posted. The problem was operator error, which for me it usually is.
Now having the proper training I was able to accurately hit targets from around 20ft away from my 32" CRT. Hogan's Alley didn't stand a chance.
Hey @“LeFish”#p82715 I have a spare ROM cart for Ultraman: Hikari no Kyojin Densetsu for you. Not sure when or where I could give it to you, but maybe if you come by GDC/E3/TGS, I can bring it with me. Otherwise I’ll just leave it in care to Brandon who’ll probably have more opportunities to meet you someday.
Oh man, that‘s awesome, thanks! I ended up giving it to a buddy that lives nearby who was hoping to stumble upon the cart one day but if I’m ever wherever I need to be to collect it I'll bear it in mind.
Okay the first of several video game related mail items finally arrived (or rather, arrived a month ago at my old address haha)
I ordered this Dec. 2004 issue of gamesTM because of the Tim Rogers interview with Hideo Kojima (full scans [here](https://imgur.com/a/nLw2g6z)). I've been really curious about MGS for a long time and am finally taking the leap into playing, so I figured this would be an interesting piece of research to help ground myself in the history. Added bonus--art is beautiful!
@“andrewelmore”#p103134 Awesome gets! Would you share your experience with Buyee? I loaded carts bunch of times but couldn't pull the trigger because I was iffy about how it works, especially shipping cost.
@"KennyL"#p103205 I've been using Buyee for years, when I started it was because they were the only proxy service that didn't hold a preset amount of money in a "wallet". It's functionally the closest experience I could find to regular ebay, but for YAJ.
Basically, you bid on a thing, or automate a sniper bid, then when you win, you pay for the item and for the cost of it being shipped from the seller to Buyee's warehouse. They'll hold it free for 30 days. Then once all your orders have arrived at their warehouse, you can ship them separately or you can have them consolidate it all into one big professionally packaged box, and airmailed to you, which is what I always do to err on the side of safety. In this case, shipping was about $200 USD total, and it got here in about two days. Almost every item individually was just a few yen apiece cause they were default starting bids that no one else bid on, save for the Korg M3R which started around 8,000¥ and stayed there lol. In total this whole lot was less than $400 USD.
About a month ago I purchased a copy of 3D Kaleidoscope: Baby Universe from Italy after me and my friends spent a whole night entranced by it running on Duckstation. Today it finally came in. Apparently it came with a sticker sheet I had no idea about, and this is one of the absolute sickest manuals I've ever seen
As part of my previously-documented quest to finally understand this newfangled “Metal Gear Solid” franchise that has recently taken over the zeitgeist, I went to my local Boarders and picked up the latest issue of EGN (Issue 150 - Jan 2002) to check out their review of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. I was greatly enthused to see that it came bagged and boarded.
You guys played these things? What's the deal with _Metal Gear_?
