I got something amazing in the mail: a Digimon virtual pet graciously gifted by the incredible, kind @treefroggy, who I cannot thank enough ! I can't wait to see which Digimon I end up getting!
I knew there are cheap classic mega drive loosies, but once I started looking it seemed like they were all $25 each for ¥200 games. Finally found some of the ones I wanted for a reasonable price, got them at auction for $5 each. Mainly wanted Puyo
I used to have the PDP Talon remote for my Xbone but gave it away and ever since then have tried to make do with the gamepad for media apps. I've found this to be a subpar experience and enough so that I wanted a new remote, so that I wouldn't have to wake the controller and wait for it to pair again before using it or worry about accidentally bumping the sticks or triggers and messing up the volume or my place in a show. I don't know how people tolerate using a console as their primary set-top box without a remote or CEC compatibility with their TV's remote. I'm glad I got rid of the PDP one though because this one doesn't have mushy buttons like it did, or that soft-touch plastic that gets sticky after a few years—and if it surprises you that someone can improve on such a simple device as a media remote then you haven't seen how much the design of a mundane object like this can be goofed up.
Here's something else that's cool: I had no idea that the Series consoles had IR receivers. That rules, and it was super funny seeing reviews for this thing mention the need for "a direct line of sight" as a con in their product breakdown. Am I really sharing the same planet as these people? Like, who on Earth prefers a BT remote that goes to sleep ten minutes into the 54-minute program you need it to pause? I cannot.
Got an 8bitdo pad for my Retroid when it is getting its hdmi out on as well as a sata adapter and SSD to get one of my PS2s booting games off a hard drive. The PS2 bottle necks so there's no benefit to the SSD but it can be repurposed more easily in the future.
It's a real treat just choosing from a library of games that are just there rather than having to change disks like some kind of caveman.
I own about a thousand games and all have been bought with the intention of playing rather than with a collector mentality. I have realised after accruing so many that it is going to take me decades to get through them all. People are paying silly money for games at the moment so I'm going to sell a load off and enjoy having a more convenient library.
@“Chopemon”#p135507 I actually had a friend who put all his games in a spreadsheet next to an average ‘how long to beat’ time. Basically stopped him from buying new games lol.
I wonder if there will be some weird gaming renaissance when a bunch of us start hitting retirement age and thus have more time to play and tackle the backlogs.
@“MovingCastles”#p135609 I‘m doing the same thing. A big spreadsheet that lists all of my to play games and whether they’re on disk or a ROM and if I'm switching to ROM. Then I can eBay a load of chaff and have some semblance of a backlog list.
I was imagining that I'd get to all my disk games in my retirement but that's going to be nearly 40 years...
@“Chopemon”#p135646 honestly I created a spreadsheet and it's been super helpful. I personally just adapted a basic Google sheets template. Works well and there is some colour coding involved as well.
If you're a PAL pal I wouldn't mind browsing your wares. And yeah still a way to go before retirement - probably end up dropping gaming at that age and pick up beekeeping or something lol.
PS– I didn‘t realize this because I didn’t unwrap the playstations before storing them under my shelf (they are so well packed and I bought them for future projects, so it made sense just to leave them wrapped up for now!) that T.J.J. put discs in both of the playstations too as an extra lil nicety!
I neglected posting a photo of this because it has just been too hectic of a summer, and too 100 degrees to pull out a precious pc engine until now!
The Last Boss of the forum @“exodus”#3 sent me this hucard for free several months ago even though I tried to insist on paying for it. Thanks dude :0)
I can still send you some dollars just say the word :0)
Now time to play this’n casually between rpg adventures!
Edit: after playing for a while today it’s a new weird favorite. Holding down down👇to charge beam and the associated animation is so weird and good. I like the returning beam, feels like Rayman.
And oh lort it’s raining frogs just a minute into the first stage.
And the dice parlour fellas and frog is gnar. This game is frogged up.
The simple dice betting mechanic is what I also love in the first ganbare goemon game for SNES!
Lol then at the end of the stage my character is like praying his ass off at the shrine and suddenly dies. I love it
The heft of the box and crusty outer plastic made me quite excited. Turns out it has literally never been opened (factory seal on game case). ¥2000 from Surugaya, absolutely nuts. The documentation looks legit. I’m stoked.
Also looks like it specifically lacks any reference to the hdd addon; 8mb is plenty! Lol
12 years after this art book came out in Japan it finally gets an English release thanks to Reborn. Amazing book if you want that hot hot hot Akihiko Yoshida art
Landed some extreme hotness in an excellent trade for some old strategy guides and stuff I don’t need anymore. One of the better packages I’ve received in my life
