I gotta hit Shining Force II soon
jesus, had no idea there were several great sax covers of shining force 2 music
so good
now that i have this pocket set up proper i really have no excuse not to finally play the fan translated game gear gaiden, other than that part of my heart that doesn't ever want to not have a classic shining force game left to experience
For future reference and records, we had an entire month, in October 2023, dedicated to the greatness of Shining Force II elsewhere on the forum:
And we also had an entire day, in November 2024, dedicated to the “greatness” of Shining Force III’s railroad infrastructure elsewhere on the forum:

Recently saw someone say “shining force had a ton of backstory removed for the US release”… can anyone explain? I have several tabs of Shining Force stuff open right now to try and find what they’re talking about. Obviously the final boss seems to be from Shining & Darkness. I’m sure there’s more to it than that. I would have preferred to play a fan translation when I first committed to beating the game two years ago, but all that exists is the official original release for genesis.

Seems like a He Said, She Said situation so it will be difficult to figure out the true story but one important fact regarding Shining Force localisation is that many character names have been changed from Japanese to English on all major games, even when Sega took care of localization themselves. This has sometimes affected continuity with inconsistent name changes from one episode to the next.
