Was thinking the other day about how whistles and whistling from video games and how, in some cases, have found a way into my day-to-day.
There's this tune an NPC whistles in Max Payne 1's beginning subway level. Played the game a lot back in the day, so the tune's become sort of a stock/default choice when I find myself whistling:

Whistling was a distraction mechanic in the OG Splinter Cell games. I use these when calling my cat:

Having played Deadly Premonition for the first time on Switch last year, this ear-worm has become my go-to when doing chores or just chilling.

What other whistles of note have you guys come across in video games? Have any of them crept into your routine?
Most of them are from what I call “the 64DD era” or the blurry line between n64 and GameCube where a lot of the awesome composers that worked with kazumi totaka made these tracks
Also sonic and pals do some whistling in sonic adventure 2 to call out tiny animals and call Chao that love you very much

god i love the whistles sorry. glad you made this thread cause I wanna catalogue all these as I remember them.
we should eventually get a thread on here about that, because I know exactly what you’re talking about, and, in my opinion, that was probably the most interesting Nintendo’s ever been. I feel like there’s probably a lot to be said about it.
@treefroggy#31737 Those Animal Crossing tracks (esp. the 12AM one) has an almost ethereal, uncanny quality to the whistling. Adds to the “small town life but with kooky animal characters” vibe of the game. I dig it.
somewhere near the epicenter of video game whistling one may find wild arms
this is a badass tune but the beginning is actually too much whistling. it sounds like someone sitting next to you whistling an annoying song that you don't know
