Do we not count Keena as a cavewoman? I guess sheās more of the jungle lady type.
However, while not playable, the little humans that run around and can be eaten for health are cavemen.
Iād also like to nominate Second Samurai as an honorary caveman game, inasmuch as the front half of the game is spent indiscriminately slaughtering caveman and their ape buddies, and it seems to be the only thing the gameās remembered for:
I also suspect itāll show up on NSO eventually, too.
@chazumaru Oooh I will have to watch this
Canāt believe no one has pinged me in here
@fridgeboy too bad youāre only a fridgeboy and not a freezerboy so that we could keep an actual caveman inside of you.
@saddleblasters you know I had like an hour long convo with a biologist and a forester tonight about the science of cryogenic freezing and it was super interesting.
The main takeaway is that you can definitely cryogenically freeze a person. You just canāt do it without killing them.
@fridgeboy thatās pretty much what I always assumed, so itās good to hear it.
@exodus yeah it was cool, he (the biologist) said that they freeze biological samples all the time. You can flash freeze a group of cells and then thaw them whenever and theyāll still work. With a whole ass organism though there are a lot more problems. How do you flash freeze something so large so that you donāt freeze one part faster than the other, which would just end up killing the organism? Even if you could, once you thaw it all sorts of functions canāt just be restarted - most notably brain signaling. So maybe you could āreviveā a person, but theyād be brain dead. He also said that typically you have to remove all the water from biological organisms and replace them with something like sucrose, because water molecules crystallize in a lattice that makes them expand when they freeze - which is what would probably kill you by bursting all your cell walls. He said scientists have no idea how youād do that without killing an organism. Super interesting!
New Joe & Mac game? In this economy?
Not sure I love the new aesthetic (also not sure I loved the old aesthetic, truthfully).
@Karasu Of all the Data East IPs to bring back, they choose Joe & Macā¦? I guess Iād rather Joe & Mac be resurrected in such an unappealing style than High Seas Havoc or Heracles no EikÅā¦.
Turns out the Virtual Boy mightāve gotten its own Bonk game, if not for VB being a commercial failure and whatnot:

Joe & Macās a game that had a relatively high profile on European computers, and this remakeās being handled by a studio of French computer veteransāthey also did the Toki remake from a few years back which, like this Joe & Mac remake, is actually based on a remake that was in the works ~ 15 years ago with the notoriously inept publisher Golgoth Studio, who you might know from their woeful Magical Drop V and a whole buncha other crap they never actually released.
re: Data East revivals, Windjammers 2 turned out fine, at least.
because you demanded it
@gsk why the heck!!
Was Tail of the Sun the only 3D caveman game of the 5th generation? Thereās the seaman spin off that may be technically 6th gen. Also the 1997 Genjin Man film tie in tamagotchi āGenjintchiā where you raise a monkey into prehistoric creatures, cave man/woman, or jomon tera cotta alien pottery creatures. My favorite tamagotchi second to the mothra no tamagotchi.
Also I want to coin a sub genre of cave man games here today: games inspired by Ainu & Jomon culture
Bushi Seiryuuden
Ico / SotC
Tail of the Sun
ā¦ā¦. BotW ?ā¦..
@treefroggy nah, we got tomba, conkerās bad fur day, and though itās not quite right to characterize him as a cave man, turok lived with dinos
Does Conker have a caveman segment? Havenāt beaten it yet. I forgot that Tomba 2 was fully 3D, haha. Iām interested in any gen 5 and newer games keeping the true cave man spirit alive.
