Year in Review 2024 (Switch/PSN/XB/Steam/Etc)

I tried to do this fast, but haven’t played much. The exams for the public administrations took me a lot of time from the first half (apart from P3R and Dragon’s Dogma 2), but apart from those I played also quite some time of Tekken 8 and Unicorn Overlord.
I think next year would be more or less the same but with a lot of more short games crammed up, as I’m going to be a dad next year.

Looks like we play similar games because Persona 3 Reload and Unicorn Overlord is high up there as well.

More importantly congratulations dude on being a father!

I’m a JRPG enjoyer. I confess it’s my sin.
Thanks! It’s not definitive yet (a lot of things can happen), but let’s see.

I looked up my Xbox profile. Oh boy, I am not screenshoting that. There’s some real degenerate-looking numbers on there. I’ve got a bad habit of just leaving games running minimized and forgetting about them. Everything is like 3x inflated. I guess that’s my new year’s resolution, turn the thing off before I walk away.

my PS5 data is just elden ring and ridge racer. i’m more interested in my switch info, feels like i had a more varied year with that thing.

Yeah that makes sense. I also forgot that my return to Dragon Quest XI was earlier this year, that was such a good time (I was playing with all of the Draconic Quest challenge options turned on simultaneously and had a save file waiting that was a good 70% through the game already, then I did the postgame stuff).

As according to Sony I really racked up the hours this year, but only on a small number of games, which I suppose is typical for me.

Hardly touched the bastard this year. Didn’t like this Zelda either

My Switch recap. In 2024 I dialed back my Switch play a lot. I’ve been waiting for the Switch 2 before committing to more big games on there.

Balatro is an exception because it’s not resource intensive and travels easily.

But when it comes to player choice, I chose differently.

It was too easy for me to pick up and play any number of retro games on my Switch so I did that a lot this year. (also I basically don’t play any other console that does yearly wrap-ups so this is The One for me.)

e: wait I lied I also have my Pretty Inaccurate Steam one:

Puzzle Agent was a test to see if I could run Steam through Whisky (the game worked, barely) and PoPuP basically wouldn’t run, so only three of these are games I actually played.

Our Nintendo Switch got almost entirely usurped by my son this year. That got me wondering about the Switch 2… We know that it’s going to backwards compatible. I wonder how they’ll do shared libraries.

My Switch still largely continues to languish relative to my PS5 and my PC, but as with most years since I got one, I did get one full game out of it this year:

Someone (known to me) absconded with my switch early on this year

Edit: to be clear, a good amount of that Suika time was my own, and it would have been even more if someone else hadn’t gone completely bonkers for it lol

Also, here’s my steam roll for the year:

Seems that Steam Replays are now live, too:

I’m actually slightly surprised that Rogue Trader was such a huge portion of my Steam time this year. I played it far more than I remembered (ditto for Wrath of the Righteous, which I dabbled with this year without ever committing to a complete playthrough)

Mine is going to be Very Funny because it’s all going to be games I played for judging awards shows or insert credit. I reckon there’ll be almost no game time after february (when we do the ic GOTY ep) because I didn’t have time.

PLAYSTATION. This is the one I actually use.

I played 34 games on ps5! Not for very long I bet!

this is absolutely correct. Two of these games even came out in 2024! good for me.

Doesn’t give a monthly breakdown but yeah, 17 games in January. That looks right.

Very funny the games they then recommend. I don’t want to play any of these except ishin.

85 hours in total. More than I thought!

XBOX
I used this basically only for awards testing. 12 hours looks right.

Some funny stats - I played starfield for 6 hours and am in the top 40% of that game’s active players. I played Remnant II for 2 hours (I definitely played more than that) and am in the top 45%. Played Hifi rush for 70 mins and am in the top 45%.

these were my “other favorites”

I for sure played slayer x for longer than 2 hours. Meanwhile, Sable I never even loaded up. Cool times.

SWITCH. Let’s see how I did on the console that doesn’t work.

lol

I played a game in June though!!!

STEAM
I played one game and I was hooked!!! (to judge it for an awards show. I super did not like this game)

Looking at this stuff gets more depressing each year. I just don’t have time! I can’t play games! It sucks!!! Well there we are.

i mostly played on my switch this year, with some detours on the 3ds. i played a lot last month because it was thanksgiving and there’s like nothing to do at my aunt’s house except play video game.

the website says my lost crown playtime was around 20 hours, which seems quite low to me. everything else looks in order.

played more on steam than i thought this year! i was mostly going through higurashi to read along and practice speaking in a more feminine resonance. i finished voice lessons so i dropped off, though i will eventually finish it. recently hopped back into grim fandango after trying it many years ago and getting stuck very early on. gotten further this time around. the game that’s not showing up is the angeline era demo.

Steam is a funny place too, because this is where I do a lot of non-RPG playing, as well as all the play with friends.

I wound up playing a lot more Switch than I realized!

Anyone else kick off the year with Birushana: Rising Flower of Gunpei?

I forgot I played some of this stuff… Splatoon 3 was my most played game in Feb & Mar but I forgot I played it!

LIVE A LIVE might be the switch game that stuck with me most this year.

But I gotta shout out to the green moon :candle::candle: :green_circle::candle::candle:

I spent 2024 focusing on new releases because I thought it would be nice to have an educated opinion come GOTY time for once.

I’ll probably take a more balanced approach next year, so long as I don’t get distracted by too many shiny new things.
