Heck yeah I really enjoyed Live a Live when it first came out on the Switch. I find those HD2D look better playing on a handheld.
That song gets better every year though
Like 8 months straight of wandering the vast Atlus ocean.
There must be a mistake because Okami felt like it was 900 hours long
uhh i don’t own a ps5 or an xbox, my pc gaming is very decentralized, most of my gaming this year was ps1 games on a psp and snes games on a 3ds while commuting or on the SiSTer fpga and my switch is hacked so i dont have a normal year end thingie but i can use a homebrew hour tracker and see my top games of the last 365 days. plz don’t judge me for my suika game obsession.
also i really like to play twitchy hard and repetitive games before sleeping so that explains most of the list
If i had to guess what games would be on a universal game playing list:
–Suikoden 1
–Suikoden 2
–Breath of Fire 1 and 3 (couldn’t finish 2)
–Mawaskes Puzzle (psp)
–Sega Rally Championship (got into it because of the time trial event that happened here (my time on the first track places me on the 6th place of the speedrunning leaderboards but i dont have video proof!!!)
–Super Monkey Ball
woah you got into that weird playtest thing! have you written anything about it?
Not on the forum but at the risk of getting blasted for saying to much (they have ears everywhere) I did do something. Will DM you on discord about it (anyone else interested feel free to reach out there too; journalists/writers and video creators in particular may want to do this is all I’ll say)
My wrappeds are definite reflection of having more free time to myself this year over the last few, and also the fact that I spent a lot of time on PC. I fully acknowledge that the volume of time that I’ve spent is rather unhealthy for my physical wellbeing.
Switch
Pretty hilarious that nearly all of my time was spent in January, and almost half of my time for the year was spent on New Year’s Day playing Super Mario RPG remake. Whenever Ms LeFish and I are at my place she plays on my Switch since she only has a desktop at her house - her wrapped probably hundreds of hours on Picross and Stardew Valley.
PlayStation
I played more than I expected to this year. SMT5, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Unicorn Overlord, Ys X and Rise of the Ronin were the biggest time sinks for me but I’m still staggered at 600+ hours. I think that might be a bug.
Steam
Big PC time for me this year. The reality of these numbers will have been heavily skewed by trying to configure controls for games that have no or poor controller support, or just be a victim of my mind changing because of choice paralysis. Looking at what I actually played, around half of the games I played on Steam will have been less than 10 minutes for this reason.
My most played games were Infinite Wealth, Etrian Odyssey 3, and Magic Research 2 - an idle game that got me but I don’t recommend it!
couldn’t finish 2? i loved 2! how was 1, though? i plan to get around to 3 before 1, but that’s only because i haven’t explored if 1 has a better retranslation like 2 did.
My various years in review don’t say anything especially interesting but I thought it was funny that I have played four games on my Switch this year and two of them were Dragon Quest III
Another uneventful Switch year for me, despite barely playing Switch I decided to get an OLED model in November, hence the sudden spike in playtime.
As for Steam, wow I really didn’t use my gaming PC at all this year! Big Steam Deck year for me. Only a handful of the games listed I would consider I put any meaningful playtime into. Lots of stuff I just started up for one reason or another. The Disco Elysium time was actually my partner, I loaned her the deck to play it.
Suika buddies
i really liked 1! but found 2’s random encounter rate to be waaaay more annoying and grindy. i was dying so much I started playing a 2x gold/xp rom hack and i still wasn’t enjoying it very much. i couldn’t explore the map without dying and I had grinded quite a lot.
I was playing the og translation though. Although i found it chaming and funny how weird and broken it is.
BoF 1 just felt like fun breezy Dragon Quest clone, but 2 felt like a step backwards to me.
my steam genre playing graph is funny
(full disclosure Kitsune Tails is on there cause I did some work on it) it’s pretty good though!)
Top 3 games this year. N64 was both Zelda’s for the most part. All three of these helped me get through some long recovering from health stuff.
I have the Spotify subscription tier that gives you access to one song a year.
I didn’t even remember playing any switch games, so this is sort of funny.
As for steam, well… https://store.steampowered.com/replay/76561198025206025/2024
When your new genre is “woke”.
I mainly play Switch on my Japanese eShop account, sorry for the language inconvenience. Apparently, I “played” 90 Switch games so far this year although I am pretty sure many of them are just Arcade Archives releases and EGG releases that I launched a few minutes to check the options and/or modify the settings.
Would have never guessed my most played game in a million years. Completely forgot my MH buddies finally decided to play Sunbreak last Spring. DQ3 and Romancing SaGa 2 will probably catch up to Unicorn Overlord by the time the year is over. Please note I literally erased Balatro from the console after less than a week because it was endangering my sleep cycle.
I have the same opinion as some of you above about Unicorn Overlord. It was probably my game of the year (due to the disqualification of Balatro explained above) until I finished the Snow continent and the game basically said “now let’s do exactly the same shit again for the fourth time but on the West continent”. I think it’s in large part because the normal difficulty mode is too easy (or at least does not ramp up fast enough) and allows you to play safe with one or two overpowered units doing most of the job on the map. Might come back to the game someday with a tougher difficulty setting. Hard to totally give up on a Dragon Force x Ogre Battle 64 x Vanillaware recipe.
I am too lazy to find my PSN password just to show you the only three PS5 games I played this year are Elden Ring, Stellar Blade and Astro Bot. My Steam playtime this year was pretty much exclusively for games in development (not sure how it tracks that). I also played a lot of that Playdate gizmo for a week!
The most played game was, by a surprisingly wide margin, the The Great Ace Attorney collection, which was a bit surprising. I wonder if a lot of that was AFK time.
Next highest was unfortunately the Disgaea game, which I was playing to burn time at work. Those games are absolute trash (which I say with a mixture of some despondency but primarily affection). Was a weird confluence of life experiences to interrupt grognard big tiddy anime girl powerleveling sessions every fifteen minutes to go make sure a drunk at risk youth was still breathing in their sleep.
I liked Monster Hunter Rise but not enough to finish it I suppose.
