I’m a huge GTA5 Hater so actually kind of curious how 6 will be and the reception.
Oh, shit, I didn’t know Urban Myth Dissolution Center was going to be released in February. I’ll check it out, then.
As for the games, these are the ones for me (that haven’t been repeated by other people):
There’s also other games you mentioned (Urban Myth Dissolution Center, Demonschool, Unbeatable) and other games I don’t know when they will be released (Holstin, Peripeteia and others).
I did mention Ratatan, but it’s probably worth repeating for the Patapon-heads in the audience. You have some pretty good taste!
In a couple of weeks we’ll be getting better looks at (and maybe release dates for?) Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Maybe some other stuff too? I’ll be tuning in to this one for sure.
Some more info about Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii from the recent RGG direct:
What does everyone think of this one? I haven’t played any of the side-story Yakuza games. Are they as good as the main ones?
This and Infinite Wealth make me want to hypothetically rush through my Yakuza play through, so I can just linger in those two games for hundreds of hours. They both look mad fun, and this one especially.
This trailer has me sold easily. I’m not a huge pirate guy, but I am fascinated by the open seas enough to want to play a game about em. I had Black Flag on my list for that, but now it seems Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will fulfill my pirate life needs.
On the plus side, being so “behind” on these games, means I never pay much for them. By the time I get to this it’ll be like $10.
i played the demo for this last year and really dug what it was going for!
This looks so sick! The Steam trailer cuts too often to give me a good idea of what the combat actually feels like, but I wishlisted anyway.
Looks like a fun dungeon crawler to hangout with.
I just learned of this one, which looks (and sounds) nuts.
Main character Stamp is voiced by Kazuma Kiryu’s voice actor in both Japanese and English.
Blade Chimera comes out tomorrow on PC and Switch and it’s getting pretty good reviews. Seems like a Metroidvania with very little exploration, and a whole lotta combat.
Is anyone going to be picking it up?
I might at some point, but I’m swamped by gigantic rpgs at the moment.
The demo was pretty amazing though! And of course the animations are top-notch.
Depends on what you want out of the games and what do you consider spin-offs.
Judgment and Lost Judgment are veering on a more lawful side of the Yakuza games, with some things I’d make a side eye (the sexualization and pseudoporn that is there in some of both games), but the combat is really fun and unique and I feel they’re as good as main titles. Kaito files isn’t probably as good, but I feel this is a short game on its own right even if it’s called a DLC.
As for Gaiden, I feel it was way funnier than Yakuza main titles if you are less for the epic and the story and more about fighting. They keep the same tone for a shorter span and well, imagine fighting with cables and gadgets xD.
Then, do you consider Ichiban’s titles as spin-offs? If so, I think the JRPG Yakuzas are really fun if you love janky, weird slapstick combat even if it doesn’t always land correctly, but I feel that Ichiban’s stories seem far more mature and earnest that some mainline Yakuzas. I’ll try Infinite Wealth probably due to that.
As for Majima’s side game, it feels more like fusing Majima’s gameplay from Yakuza 2 Kiwami into the Judgment/Gaiden formula, but the ship battles can be really hilarious in their own right.
I consider the Ichi games mainline.
So far I’ve played 0, Kiwami, and 7. Infinite Wealth is next on my list. These games just come out faster than I can play them!
I’m picking it up tomorrow. Having a tiring slog of a week so it’ll be nice to nab something new and flashy, yet mercifully short, as a little pick-me-up.
Thank you so much for bringing Ratatan to my attention! I loved Patapon so much
I backed it on Kickstarter, before I resolved not to back anymore Kickstarter games, lol.
o7 Thank you for your sacrifice
